Here I will review Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express with no annual fee, so that you'll have a better idea of what this card offers, and I'll also tell you what you should watch out for. Note that this card is only for US residents with a good to excellent credit score.
Special Offer - Earn 5% cash back on eligible travel purchases in the first 6 months, up to $200.
No annual fee. You can get many benefits without having to pay any annual fee for this card.
Special Offer. Earn 5% cash back on $4,000 in eligible travel purchases in your first 6 months of card membership. That can give you up to $200 in cashback!
Earn $100 back in statement credit. After you use your new card to make $1,000 in purchases within the first three months you will earn this useful bonus of $100 back (in the form of a statement credit). This offer is only for new sign-ups!
0% APR introductory rate on purchases and balance transfers for 12 months. After the introductory period, the variable APR is between 13.24% and 23.24%, depending on your creditworthiness and other factors, with flexibility to pay over time. If you pay off your balance in full each month, you won't have to worry about the APR.
Earn up to 3% cash back on purchases. You earn 3% cash back on purchases made at U.S. supermarkets (up to $6,000 per year in purchases, 1% cash back thereafter), 2% cash back at U.S. gas stations and at select U.S. department stores, and 1% cash back on other eligible purchases. There is no minimum spending required for these cash rebates, and you don't even need to enroll. Terms and limitations apply.
The U.S. department stores which are eligible for 2% cash back include Bealls, Belk, Bloomingdale's, Bon Ton Stores, Boscov's, Century 21 Department Stores, Dillard's, J.C. Penney, Kohl's, Lord & Taylor, Macy's, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, Sears and Stein Mart, but partnerships are subject to change.
Redeem your Reward Dollars for statement credit. You can start redeeming when you have earned at least $25 Reward Dollars. I like that you can redeem your cash back anytime, whenever you accumulate $25 or more. It seems that you may redeem your Reward Dollars in the form of gift cards or merchandise. Here's the fine print: "We may at our option offer you other ways to redeem your reward dollars, such as for gift cards or merchandise." Note that cash back is only earned on eligible purchases.
Earn cash back faster by adding family or friends to your account. If you get a secondary card for your spouse or child on your account (which is at no extra charge), you'll earn even more cash back.
No limit on the cash rewards you can earn. No limit means that you get even more cash back when you spend on big-ticket items. Over the course of a year, all your everyday purchases add up and you can potentially get hundreds of dollars in cash back.
Purchase Protection Plan. This plan may protect you against any accidental damage or the theft of eligible purchases. American Express may refund, in the case of the store not doing so, up to $1,000 per occurrence, up to $50,000 per card account per policy year.
Extended warranty. American Express may extend the original U.S. warranty of the items you purchase that have 5 years or less of warranty by up to one year.
Return Protection. Got a change of mind with your purchase, and can't return it because you've lost the receipt or the store is giving you a hard time? No worries! If you try to return an eligible item purchased in the U.S. within 90 days from the date of purchase and the store won't take it back, the purchase price may be refunded by American Express, up to $300 per item, excluding shipping and handling, up to $1,000 annually per card account.
Flexibility to pay your balances over a period of time. Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express is a credit card, not a charge card, which means that you'll be able to pay your balances over a period of time although doing that would incur interest charges.
No overlimit fee. American Express eliminated all overlimit fees effective October 1, 2009. This is especially useful for those of you who normally spend more than the limit the credit card has. As long as you pay your bills on time, there will be no other fee to accompany this overlimit spending.
$100,000 in travel accident insurance. Provides up to $100,000 in accidental death and dismemberment insurance.
Terms and conditions apply.
Penalty fees if you pay late. Who can really blame a lender for charging a fee if you don't pay up on time? If you pay your credit card bill late or if your payment is returned, you will have to pay a penalty fee of up to $37. Of course you should never pay late as it damages your credit score, but there are other cards that don't charge a penalty fee when you pay late.
Paying late also earns you a 29.49% penalty APR. This is a very rewarding card with lots of benefits, but don't even dream about thinking of paying your credit card bill late. If you aren't the most responsible of people, or if you just don't have a great memory, this may not be the right card for you.
If you want to earn generous cash back at U.S. supermarkets, U.S. gas stations and U.S. department stores without paying an annual fee, Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express is the card to get.
Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express (no annual fee) is, in my opinion, a good credit card to get as you'll earn 3% cash rebate on up to $6,000 spent per year in purchases at U.S. supermarkets (1% cash back after that), 2% on gas (at U.S. gas stations) and select U.S. department store purchases and 1% on other eligible everyday purchases. What I really like about this card is that unlike some other cash back cards, you don't need to spend any minimum amount in order to qualify for the cash back amounts, and you don't even need to enroll for the cash back! So if you have a good to excellent credit score, and pay your balance in full and on time each month, you will be able to maximize the full benefits of having this cash back card. This card provides many travel benefits, purchase protection, return protection, extended warranty and many other premium services. If you spend at least $1,000 with this card in the first 3 months of cardmembership, you can earn the bonus of $100 back. Terms and conditions apply.
Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express is a good card for you if you want to earn up to 3% cash back without any minimum spending, and also want to enjoy the cardholder benefits of an American Express card. Getting the cash back is very cumbersome. It seems they are trying to deincentivize taking your earned money as cash and pushing the customer into accepting merchandise in lieu of cash.
