Those of you who want a credit card that gives you high cash back on everyday purchases should seriously consider this card. In this Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express review, we show you why we would recommend this card over other cash back cards in the market, and why it makes perfect sense to get this if you spend just $25 a week on supermarket purchases. If you have very good to excellent credit, read on to find out more about the pros and cons of Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express in this detailed review.
0% on purchases and balance transfers for 12 months
Signing bonus: Get up to $350 in the form of a statement credit. Get $150 back after making $1,000 in purchases using your new Card during the three first months of cardmembership. You only need to spend $333.34 on your card during each of the first 3 months to earn this $150 signing bonus! Plus, get up to $200 by getting 10% back when you use the Card at US Wireless Telephone Service Providers in 2016. You must apply by 06/15/2016 to be eligible for this offer.
Get 6% cash back on groceries. Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express has a high rewards rate of 6% cash back for the first $6,000 you spend in purchases at U.S. supermarkets per year (1% thereafter). This is 6 times more than what typical cash back cards offer, making this a very rewarding card to use when you shop at U.S. supermarkets.
What's awesome is that this also applies to gift card purchases! You can purchase gift cards such as Amazon, Apple iTunes, Google Play, Starbucks and many others, at the supermarkets, which would earn you a high 6% rewards on them.
Just by spending $25 a week on supermarket purchases will already mean you'll receive more than $75 in cash back by the end of the year. If you've got a household you need to buy stuff for, this card is great for that purpose.
Get 3% cash back at U.S. gas stations. Gas purchases are a big expense for most Americans. Using this card to pay for your gas purchases when you fill up at U.S. gas stations is a good way to save a lot of money. Just think: 3% of $1,000 is $30 a year, and spending $1,000 a year on gas is easy. If you own more than one car or do a lot of driving, you can easily spend a lot more than that. It is important to note that warehouse clubs, supermarkets or superstores that sell gas usually won't be classified as gas stations, so unless gas is at least 3% cheaper at some warehouse club or superstore, stick to bona fide gas stations to avoid missing out on cash back.
You also get 3% cash back on purchases made at select U.S. department stores. Eligible department stores currently include Bealls, Belk, Bloomingdale's, Bon Ton Stores, Boscov's, Century 21 Department Stores, Dillard's, J.C. Penney, Kohl's, Lord & Taylor, Macy's, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, Sears and Stein Mart, but partnerships are subject to change.
You get 1% cash back on other eligible purchases. Every eligible purchase you make with this card will earn cash back. Most real purchases that aren't returned or bought on credit or installments count as eligible purchases, although terms and limitations apply.
Easy cash back redemption. The cash back you earn is in the form of Rewards Dollars that are redeemable as a statement credit. That means the cash back you redeem can go straight toward covering the cost of purchases you make with the card and that money will be taken off of your credit card bill. Cash back is earned only on eligible purchases. Terms and limitations apply.
Enjoy 0% intro APR on purchases and balance transfers for 12 months. You won't have to pay any interest fees on purchases you make with your card during this time, so it is a great opportunity for you to make big-ticket purchases and repay them before this introductory period is over. After this introductory period, you will have a variable APR of 13.24%-23.24% on your purchases and balance transfers, depending on your credit score among other factors.
Earn cash back on bills you already pay, such as phone bills, by signing up with each provider.
Cash back is received as Reward Dollars and can be redeemed for a variety of things, such as statement credits. You will also be able to redeem your cash for gift cards, cash back or merchandise, as long as you have earned at least $25 cash back.

As a Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express Card Member, you can enroll for complimentary ShopRunner membership to enjoy free 2-day shipping, plus free return shipping on eligible items, when you use your card to pay for purchases at over 120 participating online stores. Popular stores include PetSmart, Claire's, Babies R Us, Timberland and Toys R Us.
Extended warranty. By making purchases with this card, you can double your purchase’s warranty period up to one year when the original warranty is less or equal to 5 years. If you usually pay extra for longer warranty periods when making purchases, this benefit can save you money.
Return protection. When making a purchase with your card, you may receive up to $300 reimbursement for each purchase you regret having bought within 90 days, if the store won't take it back. You can be reimbursed with a maximum of $1,000 yearly.
Purchase protection. Your purchases can be insured against damages, and may be reimbursed if they suffer any damage. That's a nice perk which can give you a lot of peace of mind, especially if you use this card to purchases expensive items.
Travel accident insurance of up to $100,000 means that if you are permanently and seriously disabled or killed in an accident while traveling by common carrier, you or your dependents could be compensated up to that amount. Think of this as a sort of life insurance. You will have to pay for your travel using this card to enjoy that coverage.
Car rental loss and damage insurance so that you can have peace of mind when you rent a car. All you have to do to enjoy this coverage is use this card to pay for the auto rental. This perk can save you a lot of money that you would usually spend on loss and damage coverage offered by the auto rental companies.
Access and monitor your spending online and through your phone. You will be able to view your reward accumulation to keep track of your rewards as well as monitor your spending and schedule your monthly payments.
Dispute Resolution. If fraudulent transactions are charged to your card, American Express can work with you and the merchant to help resolve the issue.
Receive benefits at entertainment events such as concerts and sports events, as well as preferred access. You can even receive advance notice of when they're coming around.
Flexibility to make your payments over time. Since this is a credit card, not a charge card, you have the choice of making your payments over time.
Roadside Assistance Hotline. This card does not give you actual complimentary roadside assistance like some other cards do. But if you get stuck on the road, you can use the roadside assistance hotline to get help. You will have to pay the cost of towing or repair services, so this is really a minor benefit, but Amex will help organize the services you need so at least you won't be left stranded.
Terms and restrictions apply.
$75 annual fee. This card will benefit you the most if you spend frequently on supermarket purchases. Even if you spend as little as $25 per week at supermarkets, the cash back you earn at the end of the year can make this card fee worthwhile.
You must have a minimum of $25 cash back in order to redeem it. Even if you want to redeem your cash back for statement credit, you have to have at least $25 in order to redeem it. That isn't a huge problem, but Discover it® Cashback Match™ with No annual fee, for example, lets you redeem at any time, for any amount.
BankAmericard Cash Rewards™ credit card is a similar kind of cash back credit card because it also lets you earn rewards in fixed categories instead of changing categories. It has no annual fee and lets you earn 1% cash back on every purchase, 2% at grocery stores and 3% on gas for the first $1,500 in combined grocery/gas purchases each quarter. Compared to Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express, this card from Bank of America offers similar cash back on gas, but much lower cash back for grocery shopping. It does let you get a 10% customer bonus every time you redeem your cash back into a Bank of America® savings or checking account, and if you become a Preferred Rewards client you can increase that bonus to 25%-75%, which could mean a lot more cash back. Since it has no annual fee, it may be a good alternative depending on how much you spend each year. See Terms.
Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express has no annual fee and it comes with a lower rewards rate on groceries and gas: 3% cash back on grocery stores, up to the first $6,000 spent annually (then 1%), 2% back on gas and select department store spending, and 1% cash back on all other purchases. However, if you spend more than $105 per month on U.S. supermarket purchases (gift cards including!) each month, it will be more worth it for you to go for Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express as you'll get a higher rewards rate when shopping at U.S. supermarkets and U.S. gas stations.
Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express is one of the most rewarding cash back credit cards for purchases at U.S. supermarkets you can get. The cash back you earn at U.S. gas stations is also very competitive.
Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express is one of GET.com's favorite credit cards for those of you who want to earn good cash back on your supermarket and gas purchases. We would recommend Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express over some other cards if you make supermarket purchases on a regular basis, as you will earn 6% cash back on up to $6,000 spent per year in such purchases. This card even offers an 0% intro APR on purchases and balance transfers for 12 months (13.24% - 23.24% variable APR thereafter, which is something many other rewards credit cards don't offer.
All in all, if you want to earn cash back faster and receive the perks and benefits of an American Express card, the Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express will be a good choice of card for you if you have very good to excellent credit.
