Go with the Nook Tablet or the Kindle Fire. They are well within your price range and do exactly what you need and want it to with regards to browsing, emailing, playing games or staying organized with the downloadable apps, reading, listening to music, looking at pictures, etc. The tablets are very similar but the Nook has a great screen with sharp images and color as well as 16GB of storage space. My wife loves hers.

Tablet computers work rather well at their current state, but in order to get more functionality for your dollar, I'd suggest getting one in a few months. Currently, the Lenovo IdeaPad is a great tablet, but will run you slightly over your price-range; although it has come down to nearly $250.00 in the past.
