What's the top action shooting camera for under $1,000?

My daughter has the photography bug but her interests are in things that move and often move quickly (sports, animals, etc.). Need to get something good for her currently beginner/intermediate ability but something she can also grow into a bit.

It's a superior action camera!!!!

This thing is BUILT for speed. It can take consecutive photos at 10 per second, which is ridiculous. It also has really fast 15-point autofocus. The full-time phase-detection autofocus it uses also operates in video mode, which is the first of its kind. Not only is the autofocus extremely fast, it's also accurate.
At this price point I don't think you will find a faster camera.

This has a really decent AF system and 10 fps is awesome. Do you know how it compares to the Canon 40D?

I would say it compares favorably, actually. These are great cameras, but so are 40Ds. Either way is gold.

Nikon is a nice option for this price range. Full 1080p high-definition video, a bigger and better articulating LCD screen, larger burst-mode capacity, expanded ISO, full-time autofocus in video and Live View, and special effects for still and video capture. Does well in low light and has little lag time so capturing action should go well with a nice long lens.

This camera is perfect for action because it has one of the fastest continuous shooting modes with 6.5 fps and has an ISO range of 100-3200. It also has a great noise reduction feature that can be turned on and off. The only complaints about this camera is that it only has a point AF and little to no weather proofing. It is rugged, however, and offers a bright 3 inch LCD screen that can easily be seen outdoors.

Oh interesting. I've seen a lot of suggestions on this site and I have yet to come across the Canon 40D. Might be worth a look. Thank you.
