What's a good snowboard to consider, as a beginner under $250?

Here are a few good brand names to try and find in your price range: Burton, GNU, Never Summer, K2, Ride.... these are all reputable brands. Expensive, though. But boards go on sale all the time, so keep your eyes open for a good deal and maybe you can snatch one up for a great price.

I agree that there are a lot of good products out there, so as long as you go with a fairly name brand board than I don't see how you can go wrong. Speaking from experience I would recommend that you don't be afraid to go with something used. A lot of people will spend top dollar on a board and then decide they don't want to be a snowboarder after one time out. There are a lot fo good used products that you can get for fairly cheap. I found my last two boards off of craigslist. It will take a little bit of effort to purchase the board you are looking for, but it could save you a ton of money in the long run.

You could go with something like this board. It's pretty inexpensive and great for beginners. Regardless of what you choose the biggest thing to consider is that no matter what board you get, make sure it's shorter than your actual height. The longer the board the faster it will go downhill so for beginners, instructors will generally recommend that you go shorter than yourself for optimal control. Most boards are great for beginners, in this case size is what matters.

Hey Sean,

I would go for a Freestyle over a Freeride snowboard. The Freestyle is more responsive to a beginner. You also have to decide on the length of the board based on what you style of riding is. Different lengths really are built for different styles of riding. Additionally, you are going to have to face the fact that an entry level board is going to be a bit heavier than a more expensive board. This is a great place to start looking, and will give you a nice guide, and remind you of all the things you should consider before buying. If you are a total newbie, maybe think about renting first this season to figure out what you like: http://www.abc-of-snowboarding.com/buying-guide/bu...

Like Lance said, you will also have to purchase some bindings, so I don't know if that is included in your $250 or not. But here is a really nice board that was recently reduced in price to put it right in your range. it's not specifically beginner board, it actually a really nice K2. It's a freestyle design, which is probably what you want t start out with, as it will be the easiest to maneuver with, and just the easiest to use in general.

I think think this would be a good starter board, and since it's just under $200, you'll be able to buy yourself some bindings as well!
I think as a beginner you will find this board to be awesome to ride, as you won't need features found on more expensive boards. Try a season on this board, and maybe you can upgrade next year if you fall in love with the sport (which you will)
