You could try something like this. there are all different types. this one actually uses gps to track the receiver, and the location is accessible from a computer or smart phone.
it works only decently well though, in my experience. it doesn't work well at all inside, especially anywhere with lots of roofing or layers above you. (you probably have similar difficulties with your gps)
set up is easy enough. not compatible with a non-smart phone, though.
works well for tracking outdoors mainly, and since that's what my husband bought it for initially, we're satisfied.

LOL i just have to throw this in there. I think as parents our first and utmost goal is to keep our kids safe, just a keep an eye on them at all times, I do not think you need GPS or any ridiculous thing to keep your kid safe other then a good pair of eyes and when they are walking a lot inside a store put them in a shopping cart and push them around so they close to you at all times. As for disney land, just keep your eyes on them at all moments. It is sad if you end up having to use GPS to find them.
This is too funny, I have to admit suggesting a leash is pretty hard to resist which a question like this. Sorry to be in sensitive but this question is a little be worrisome to me.
It should make you worried, as a parent there is nothing more frightening then a lost child and by that I don't mean by the irresponsibility of the parent but an unfortunate event such as a kidnapping or a wondering child in a crowd.
I'm sure she was referring to if they were lost by kidnapping or something horrible. Kids are fast and kidnappers are faster. Your eyes can not always be fast enough.

we bought it for our trip to disneyland with our 4 year old... we thought we might as well have something like this for our first trip to LA with the child. It's a big place!!!
he didn't get lost, thankfully, but we did do a little test out in the park and it pin pointed his location.
very simple just click the 'where you at' button and it will find him!

We got one for my baby and had it engraved with Name, address and phone number and any illnesses on the inside... on the outside (front) I picked out a cool picture/symbol thingy so it looked like a regular jewelry and not a ID tag for the kidnappers. Whenever she is lost they can ID her and call me right away.

This is a great start to buy for a child with all the information on it in case the child is accidentally lost, but in the case that the child is missing, those other tracking devices are great ideas! I say get this and one of those for sure!

This is awesome, we tie it on my daughters shoelaces and when ever we need to find her we push our button and her "teddy beeper" starts beeping loudly from afar, as far as 150 ft away. You cant really clip it on their clothes cuz they will try to pull it off but on the shoelaces (dont use on velcro) they will stay tight. So good to use at Disneyland and the mall. I look forward to using it during halloween trick or treating too!

I love this one because I dont want to have to go to a computer to see my child, I want to hear that noise immediately when I first notice them gone. I wouldnt always have computer access so this was my choice. Not to mention a stranger or kidnapper wouldnt know this was a tracker because it looks like an accessory.

With kidnappers of babies to big kids these days, this would be my choice because it looks like a toy of some sort and it should go on an article of clothing or backpack and in my case, I put it on my baby's shoe lace so he cant take it off. But I'm always worried about my baby being taken, so as soon as I (if ever, hopefully not) notice my baby missing, I will push my button and the babies alarm will sound scaring the bad guy off and hopefully loud enough for me to hear the direction.
This is great. I bought it because its also waterproof up to 1 mile underneath. A few years ago, my little cousin went missing and had we had this device we may have been able to save his life. Unfortunately he crashed and got stuck behind a sound wall off the freeway, it took 8 days to find his body. I highly recommend this device.
This is my ideal tracking device. Its small, discrete and waterproof. I just download the program APP on my phone and its always available to see on my phone. As easy as Facebook! But more important.
This is a wonderful invention and Im so glad they have these. My friends kid went missing years ago and they never found her, Completely heartbreaking. This is something I would give as gifts for parents because you never know. I got one for my dog because he always wonders off, so I know exactly where he is when he has jumped the gate.
This is best and easiest to work. Because its water proof, I feel more secure. Sad but true, I'd want to be able to track my child if kidnapped and perhaps killed. There's nothing more horrifying then losing a child weather an accident or a boogeyman has them, and not knowing where they are, or finding their body.
When my wife first bought this, I thought, " are you crazy?" but she explained to me what had happened to other children that did not have such tracking devices and those parents avoided even the conversation of a lost child. We didn't want to be the ones the say "what if..." So we are happy to know that if, god forbid, anything happens to our kids they will be easily found no matter what the circumstances are. The Other people here commenting as if it is a joke have no idea of the love for kids or the feeling of having a tragedy in their life so I don't take them seriously. Hopefully they are not as jokefull when they have children when it comes to safety.
