I think if you've never done it before it would be worth your money to buy a little kit like this and teach yourself how to do it for real.
The kit has brown and black polish and brushes that are designed for polishing shoes... so you know they will be gentle enough not to scuff them.
You can look online to see proper polishing techniques. Youtube has 'how to' videos on every topic imaginable!
This may not be the highest quality set ever, but as long as you're not a professional shoe shiner it will probably be good enough for you! Still does the same thing that a more expensive kit would do!

Oh my gosh, blast from the past. When I took the time to keep my boots and other leather shoes looking polished and new I always used the Dr Martens balsam. It's great for cleaning and polishing but also for protecting the leather that costs so much to buy! I've actually used it on many of my leather items, including purses and jackets. It works really well. Now days I like the weather, ruined look. Lol. For those in wet climates, such as myself, it also protects against water, and salt marks. I used to go to the ocean quite a bit and was the only one to come back without having to scrub the salt off. Very effective.

This is the best shoe polish I've found. The price is a little steep, but I think it's worth it because it leaves a beautiful shine.
Make sure you are using the right techniques when you polish, and it's also a good idea to have the right tools, like the correct buffing brushes.
