I recommend this jacket without any reservations. It's a glorious leather jacket for biking. Almost too heavy and thick, and that's the way I like 'em.
Zippers work nice and smooth. Feels good to wear, comfortable inner lining and also it's cut rather well.
But the best part is the thickness. You will feel safe and secure in this jacket. Don't compromise with your riding jacket - you need something as tough as the pavement.

I think this is the sweetest biker jacket ever... a bit out of your price range, though. It's made by HD, so you know it's a solid jacket, right off the bat. It's only I would say a medium heavy jacket, so keep that in mind. It won't offer you full protection, per say, but if you add a little armor underneath you should be in good shape. Basically you get a lot of jacket for a reasonable price.
Lots of vents to keep you cool while you ride, too.
The coolest part is the subtle yet badass embroidery on the back. It's a black on black design, with Harley Davidson and a skull on there, and it's reflective! Very reflective, at that... a great safety feature.
I like that the logo on the back is so subtle, because it makes this jacket okay to wear around town a little bit, too. There's no offensive or ridiculous logo to offend everyone.
Anyways, my husband has been wearing this jacket for the past year (ish) and is very pleased with it. You will be, too.

Heavy heavy heavy. That's why i like this jacket and why you should buy one! To me, the jacket is for safety first, aesthetics second. So, obviously this jacket looks really cool. The question is, does it perform well?
Well, I haven't yet gone down in it, but I can say without a doubt it would protect me from the road as well as anything I've worn before (maybe not like a $600 jacket will, but for this price range it's great).
Like I said, it's very heavy, and offers me a sense of security in that regard. The inner lining is soft on my skin, and can even zip out.
Has lots of pockets and just looks really sweet. Great jacket, highly recommended.

I like this style. Very cool, less bells and whistles. Very sleek. Has a soft, removable liner and the exterior is a high quality leather. Not super heavy, but with a couple layers you'll be good. Fits well, just like it should.

It will be hard to find a good quality leather jacket within that price range; I would browse sites like Craigslist and Amazon for used products. Leather lasts a lifetime, so you can find old jackets for good deals, plus vintage looks great on anyone.

JCPenny's usually carries a few leather jacket options, but I would not stand by their quality, or their ability to hold up against a spill.

I always liked this style best, It all depends what your style is. I like this because I feel protected when riding and it also looks pretty good on me. =)
