I gotta recommend this P/A system to you. I have actually used a few of these in the past, although I don't personally own one (yet). I think it is THE best beginner-intermediate P/A system available for a couple of reasons.
It's so simple to use you could teach your grandma in one minute how to assemble and use the whole thing. It's like the Mac of P/A systems. Plug in the power, the speakers, and the mics, into their color coded inputs. Voila, you are good to go.
Has two mic inputs and two 1/4 inch inputs.
The sound is full and even has a decent amount of bass presence, which is somewhat hard to believe considering the sound, but it really sounds nice!

This is a really nice pa for vocals.... i don't know, maybe it's out of your budget?....
4 mic channels, a LOT of sound. you get the built in mixer and the two speakers, and it's all under $600. That' kind of a lot, but worth it if you want something that can project.

I think this p/a would be perfect for you. It puts out a decent amount of sound... 2 X 75 watts, and it has 5 channels. The best thing about it is that it is the ultimate in portability. You don't want some huge clunky thing that you can't take around with you easily.
It's certainly enough sound for a beginner system, and is in a really nice beginner's price range, too!
There's lot's of adjustment for the sound, and overall the sound is very clear. If it's ever not clear enough you can make some adjustments to the bass/treble levels to make it better for each voice individually.
This is a great, compact system that will give you a lot of use. You will definitely be happy with your purchase.

This would be a perfect system for you to get started on. It's designed for on stage performance and portability, and is a pretty reasonable price. If you're just starting off do yourself a favor and get something really simple like this. It will be worth the money when you hear how pretty it makes your voice sound!
