What is the best alternative to a real quad ?

My son is 2 and we started him out on a beginner electric quad with Lightning McQueen but it just goes too slow. What is the next step up without going into a real quad yet?

This might be too similar to what you already have, but it's a pretty cool little bike for a little tike. It has a 12 volt rechargeable battery and can go 2.5 or 5 mph. Pretty slow, but good for youngsters. My little cousin has one and he cruises all over his backyard. Mostly on the grass, but it can handle a little dirt! Also has reverse, crucial to getting out of those sticky off-roading situations :)

With this your little guy will be riding pro when he's 12! That's probably not what a parent wants to hear, though..... hahaha. This is a really cool electric mini bike that actually has accurate quad rations in its design. It has a 350 watt motor and goes an exhilarating 10 mph!
An eight hour charge will get you around 40 minutes of riding time, and it's approved for anyone under 120 lbs. Featuring large pneumatic tires and rear disc brakes, this bike is about as close as you can get to the real thing without going up generously in price and size.

I don't know if this is for you or a child. But I got this for my son last christmas, it's a pretty cool little quad, it's quick but has a limiter chip to keep it from going to fast. It's really stable too, I don't really have to worry about him too much when he's on this thing. Theres a few models out there that tip over really easily, you need to watch out for those.

This has great shocks and goes significantly faster then the Lightening McQueen you had. I do think it'd be better if it had more traction on the wheels for the climbing capabilities its says It can do but I'm sure it pretty capable.
