depending on your setup a monitor may be better for you and be a cheaper alternative (if you dont care about watching TV or want anything over say 27 inches) however if you want something that will receive cable, get any TV with a high refresh rate (120hz or 240hz) to avoid ghosting. (essentially, motion blur) LED is definitely the way to go though they get pricy quickly.
This TV is a good bet, but it's relatively expensive. You didnt give a price range, though this is the one i would get if i had the money (the ability to play USB media off of an external source is amazing, and my friend's TV will even play .MKV files, (though with some bugs)(and i'm not sure if this one will, it's not the exact same tv but it's an older version of this one, so in theory it should)]
Though this link should help to get you started on finding one in your price range if this one isn't
Really depends on how seriously you want to game. Most LCD TVs have input lag, but some have a lot of it, making the game almost unplayable unless you know better and just get used to it. I have a 47 inch LG LCD TV which is great for watching movies, but at the time I bought it, I didn't know anything about input lag. Things felt a bit off when I switched over my 360 from my 23 inch LCD Monitor that I usually play on (around 7ms input lag) to this new one that had at least 30ms input lag. Response time on my movements felt a lot slower and playing was pretty frustrating, so I went back to the monitor. I wish I had seen that thread before buying my TV, but playing games on my Monitor isn't that bad anyway.

I generally prefer plasma TVs when it comes to sports and movies because of the picture quality but for gaming you certainly can go for a less expensive option such as LCD or LED. This TV while not the most popular is inexpensive but not cheap. It has 3 HDMI ports for multiple options connectivity wise. Overall it's a great bargain.

This would be a great entry level flatscreen for you. The main thing I think you need to look for is something with a fairly high refresh rate. Refresh rate is how many times per second the image is "redrawn" on the screen, and is expressed in Hz. This one is 120Hz, which is pretty good. If your refresh rate is too low, anything moving quickly on screen will look blurry (same with watching sports on TV... fast action will look blurry if the refresh rate is too low. But 120Hz should suffice.
As for the image quality, you're looking at a full HD display, 1080p, LCD screen. Very nice! I have a Vizio myself and I like it a lot.
I don't know how much you want to spend.... that might help narrow down the search, because there are a lot of options out there!
