What is a good DJ program?

February 18, 2012 12:56 PM PST  ·  Flag  ·  8 answers
I currently have VDJ OEM, looking for a cheapish program to work with my Numark Mixtrack on a laptop. Mac preferred, but I can also run PC stuff in Bootcamp. Thanks!

Cheapish?

You might want to try MiXXX, open source, so if it doesn't support the mixtrack off the bat, it's highly probable that someone has made a extra add-on to have it work with it.

I'm not sure if there's a mac download ATM, because it looks like the site is down for maintenance, but (Actually, I just looked at googles cached version, looks like there is a mac version) it should be up soon.

Though once you can move out of the cheapish area, you will definitely want to move on to Traktor/Serato, as much as I love VDJ, it just doesn't have all the possibilities that those do.

If you're going the software route, go Traktor. Professionals, who use software for DJing either use traktor or serato (with controllers)
Traktor duo 2 is the cheapest. 2 decks, should be enough for you i suppose :)
Mac/PC supported.
Either way, Buy a good audio interface too. (either something from NI or TC electronic or M-Audio - if you want to keep your expenses down).

While possibly not as good as Zulu, it is a great software but less expensive at the following site:

Works on both Mac and PC so you're good either way.

You should get Zulu... it's like $40-50 and is a really good program. It's for PC though, but you said that's not a big deal.
