I just wanted to add my two cents here because I have gotten extensions a number of times in the past and I know a thing or two about them.
Let's see... I would definitely go with real human hair and I would definitely get them put in professionally. Like Adele said, you treat real hair extensions like it's your hair...this includes washing, drying, styling, brushing, etc. You can do just about anything to it that you would do to your real hair, except don't brush the part where it's actually connected to your head!
Getting them put in professionally is definitely the only way to go. This will ensure it is done well and you can't see the connection point.
You want it done well or else it will look like you have fake hair on your head! So invest in some quality extensions and a good stylist to do it.
It will cost more than $200 though!
Yes...let someone do it professionally for you and the extensions will look great and take care of themselves. Wash and style like your real hair. Gotta get it done well or they might look bad!
My girlfriend works in a salon so she gets them professionally done for free, whenever she wants them. She just has one extension though on one side that gives her an uneven, choppy sort of look. It usually costs a few hundred dollars, but she gets it for free!
Anyways, point is she gets hers put in by a professional and you seriously can't even tell at all that it's fake. she even colors it, shampoos it and blow dries it. The only time I can even tell that it's there is when I reach in her hair and touch it. A pro will do a really good job, and I think it's worth the money.
My sister is a hair dresser and she's experimented on my hair for years. One thing I would not skimp on is hair extensions if you're going with the more/less permanent ones. The clip ons are easy to get for under $200 at Ebay and they are real and look pretty great. If you're putting something more permanent ones in I don't recommend getting them put in unless by a professional. It looks so much better. My sister wasn't around when I did my hair extensions so a friend out of beauty college asked if she could do them...she needed the practice. The hair extensions she can get from a seller are better quality than most of the products we can get on the open market. Not to mention when taking them out yourself, you can actually damage your hair. The permanent ones lasted me about 2 months before needing a touch up but be aware that you cannot brush your scalp as you normally wood so I took mine out around that time because I couldn't stand the thought of my scalp not being thoroughly brushed (without ripping extensions out). Not to mention they recommend using a comb for most of your brushing needs. I don't think they can be reused either so a lot of money goes into those things. I'm not sure how the curly/straight extensions work, I went with straight and I was able to iron it because it is real hair. Personally, it wasn't something I was so impressed with I'd do it again. At this point I'm just working on growing mine out. I hope this helps a little.

I would say anything that is made with human hair is going to be better quality than the synthetic brands. This brand also holds up amazingly well if you dye it to match your own color.
