I have to caution you on paying for a brand name in this particular case but I know its easier to buy a pre-built pc than try to piece one together. So that being said, if you do have the option of building your own Pc, I highly recommend looking into some of the builds you can put together at
www.reddit.com/r/buildapc for around your range and compare it to what the x51 gives you.

Overview:
Building your own PC is much cheaper and better. If you don't like building your own you there are links provided above^. Please, do not waste your money on Alienware. Think of the games on Steam you could get for the extra $100-300 you save.

I'm with Eugene on this, building your own PC will get you a much better computer in the long-run.

Generally it's better to build your own computer. I built my first one last year for about $500 and am still able to run games that came out recently. Since you're buying the computer piece by piece you can wait for good deals on each part.
