Comparing specs can lead to unfortunate "surprises". I have tried many of the iPad competitors, and NONE of them have yet to impress me even the slightest after owning an iPad. It depends on what you want from a tablet format. I would say that the iPad has the smoothest and most responsive experience out of everything i've tried so far. It's also the "main" tablet that developers shoot for, so the App Store has a huge amount of goodies in it.
If you have more utilitarian intensions that require certain programs and functions that aren't on the iPad, i would go for one of the Android tablets. In that case, i would actually recommend comparing specs.
Totally agree with what you are saying. You would think by comparing them side by side that Eee Pad would way out-perform iPad (and, Cody, I appreciate your comparison), but in fact I also think iPad is a beter experience all around.
With a slim, lightweight design and a 10.1-inch WSVGA IPS capacitive display made from durable and scratch-resistant glass that is viewable at angles up to 178°, the versatile Eee Pad Transformer is the perfect tablet for anyone who want to enjoy...

Eee Pad certainly compares hardware-wise. I think this is the best Android based tablet available right now.
Side by side, Eee Pad has better specs in a lot of categories:
-Display: Eee Pad has 1280 X 800 resolution on a 10.1" display, with 150 pixels/inch. Ipad has 1024 X 768 res on 9.7" with 132 pixels/inch.
-Processer: Eee Pad has an NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad core at 1.4 Ghz, while Ipad has Apple's A5 dual core with 1 Ghz
-RAM: Eee Pad has a 1 GB, Ipad has 512 MB
-Camera: Eee Pad has an 8 mp camera while iPad has .92 megapixels.
-Eee Pad also has an optional attachable keyboard, that can essentially turn it into a laptop (thus the "Transformer" title)
-Storage and other physical dimensions for the two tablets are about the same, except iPad has no SD slot, whereas Eee Pad does
All this being said, iPad does have some advantages to Eee Pad, namely the App store. It is currently way larger than Android's, and probably will be for a long time. Also, iPad is available with 3g, whereas Eee Pad is not.
Both are excellent tablets... I hope this comparison helps your shopping experience!
I prefer the Apple operating system so I personally would suggest that one but there is another, the Asus Transformer Prime, that is so similar but runs the Android operating system. Either one of those would be really good. They both have large 10 inch screens, 10 hours of battery life, and slim bodies. The Prime offers an optional docking keyboard that gives you an extra 8 hours of battery life and 3D game play. If I wasn't such a fan of the apps (mostly for my kids) from the apple store, I'd be more inclined to go with the Asus Transformer.
If you want to copmare specs i think that the i pad 2 is more powerful. But comparing OS i am an Android fanboy i would say that Android is the better system (not for gaming though, but seriously why do so many people use their phones and tablets for gaming)
