I think this is the best camera deal under $500. Very high quality... add some new lenses down the road and you will be shooting pro style.
For optimal landscape/scenery shots you really want a good wide angle lens, but that costs extra dough. For now, the included lens here will suffice. Mostly it's up to you as the photographer to get those great shots.
This thing is great because it has a 12.2 MP CMOS sensor and Canon's DIGIC 4 Image Processor for high image quality and speed. It also has ISO 100 - 6400 for shooting from bright to dim light, in case you are shooting in less than perfect conditions.
For the highest quality photos you definitely want to go dslr, and this is probably your best bet for the price!

I know it's not really a camera but the flipcam is a HD camcorder for really cheap which you could take high quality stills from. also it has a use port that flips out so it's quick to upload. oh.... also it can directly upload to facebook if your interested in that... hope this helps

I have the Canon G10, and it is fantastic. I got it because I wanted a nice camera, but didn't have enough money to get a nice Camera with a nice lens (stock lenses for SLRs are usually not great). Although there are definitely some limitations compared to an SLR (mainly lighting and speed), there aren't many when looking at cameras in the same price range.

slightly over 500$ but by far the highest quality DSLR you can find for 500$ it has a very high quality sensor of 14MP (better than the cannon rebel T3) and a translucent mirror which can allow for continuous auto focus during video. It has 15 autofocus points and many other great features like 1080p HD recording. go read some specs its a very nice camera and a great introduction into photography
