I think an iPad can be a very useful tool, even if you do already own a laptop. My girlfriend has a Macbook and for christmas got an iPad 2. I thought it was a bit redundant at first, but then I began to see how useful it is (for her, at least), as compared to a laptop. See, she is a stylist at a salon downtown, and has a very hecktic schedule. Now she is able to take the iPad with her to work everyday and run all her appointments and stuff right there. Her calendar is on there, she can email her clients immediately from work, even update her blog on her downtime. This is all stuff she couldn't do before because she couldn't really take her laptop with her. It's also really nice that she can do all that stuff at work, and not at home, so I get more time with her!
I think for the right people iPad can be an excellent tool.
I have a pretty nice laptop. Quad-core CPU, lots of ram. I figured I'd never really use a tablet if I got one. One I bought a tablet, though, I find myself rarely using the laptop. The tablet is so much more convenient. It's always on, ready-to-go, and it seems like for 99% of the stuff I want to do, the tablet is fine. It's light and the battery lasts for ages.
not really , a tablet is way too expensive and if it breaks , it breaks , laptops can be fixed and cost less over time , you can uprage HDD and everything so. Tablet isnt worth it.
I use my laptop for everything as well, however, I do a lot of reading and get tired of my growing collection getting in the way so I went to get a reader and ended up leaving with a reader/tablet. I don't do a lot of surfing on it but I check my emails pretty often, I read books, magazine, and newspapers, my kids play games, and when I'm sitting in the airport or the docs office I can watch Netflix. It comes in handy quite often.
My brother got an iPad for his business and it has almost totally replaced his laptop. I could be a great investment. It's worth looking into. I any of your friends have one play around with it and see if it's something you can't live without.
Well, iPads are pretty handy, and you could always get the 3G option to stay connected wherever, but if you use your laptop a ton, I probably wouldn't get one. iPads are more portable, and don't get viruses like other tablets/laptops. I think they're nifty pieces of equipment; you can do a lot with them. More portable than laptops, but if you use your laptop alot, and bring it everywhere with you, an iPad can be a bit redundent, but it's always nice to have one.
