Hey there,
I picked up one of these last year and I think it has been a great purchase. It absolutely does what it claims to do, and that is keep my food fresh and more flavorful for longer.
It seals the bags with two separate seals, so the bags certainly don't ever leak air.
I see that some people have complained that the motor goes out or isn't strong enough after awhile. Well, I can't really comment on that, as mine is still working fine. Maybe certain units are duds, I don't know, but mine is good!

For slightly over 150 you could get this guy. I think it looks like the real deal! It has an automatic sensor, so when you slide the bag in the slot it grabs hold, sucks the air out and seals it. Looks great, check it out.

I think you'd be very well off with any of the FoodSaver brands. We have one from years ago...sometime after they first came out and still haven't needed to buy a new one. The FoodSaver refills are easy to get and install and then vacuum seal everything from veggies, meat, cheese, fruit, etc. We also store our own beef when hunting has been successful. In fact, my butcher also uses the FoodSaver vacuum system. They are effective, fast, and pretty inexpensive.

I just bought a Dirt Devil, and I am pretty happy with it so far. Pretty basic vacuum, but if you don't need anything fancy, it does the trick and is a nice price.

This is a really great cost-effective vacuum sealer. I bought it because the price was so reasonable I thought, "what the heck?" I'm glad I bought it because I do my shopping at Costco and always have lots of leftovers!
It is really easy to figure out and I think you will really enjoy how fresh your food will be.
Only complaint is that it is a bit bulky and has a short cord...a bit annoying but I can live with it.
