Definitely look into these North Face gloves. They designed to help facilitate dexterity. They even have an 'e-tip' as they call it, which enables you to use your touch screen devices while the gloves are being worn. Very cool!
They are not the warmest gloves ever but they are quite warm.... just not designed for sub zero temperatures!
I think Gore Tex would be a good way to go. They make some nice lightweight, thin gloves that are water proof and warm. Obviously thinner material means less insulation, but these should keep you fairly warm, and, more importantly, dry.
Oh my gosh, I would definitely go with these. I love Gore Tex products and from what I've seen these would be something my husband would love. Completely water proof, you won't have to worry about water getting in and making your hands cold, I hear they are pretty well wind proof, and easily maneuverable. Definitely check these out. The company is amazing and their products are always top of the line!

I think this looks like a great glove. You like leather gloves? I do and I think these look seriously warm. Leather gloves are wonderfully warm and do allow for some dexterity. You should look into these.
