For my two cents, Sennheiser makes an outstanding set of headphones. So does Sony and Audio Technica, if you get the right set.
This set from Sennheiser will be excellent.

These are rather popular DJ headphones (some of the most popular headphones for professional use actually), not over the ear but decent noise canceling and extremely well balanced sound for electronica music. (works for jazz, rock and classic aswell)
It depends on your price range but Sennheiser maybe (IMO) the best headsets. Take a look at Amazon or something to find one that suits your price range and then you can google to check but I am *sure* it will have good reviews. Sennheiser rock!
These arent the best I'm sure, but I took the dive into quality headphones and got some sony MDRV6s. Sound quality is great, very even, but sometimes you want a bit more bass yknow. Also, its very high quality stuff, not cheaply made, I rough it up and its still like brand new. I especially like the cord, compact, but gives you a good bit of stretch. Beats are overpriced, you buy for the brand and cool-factor. Same goes with Skullcandy, to a lesser degree.
There's has always been a debate between electronic reproduction and natural sound. The Sennheiser HD-800 is the headphone that has been specifically engineered in replicating the basic acoustic conditions of natural hearing. This level of perform...

As far as I know these are absolutely the best headphones money will buy, but generally anything you buy from Sennheiser is going to be good quality. My $300 pair of sennheisers make a pretty damn good sound.
Not DJ headphones. Those are open headphones for fine detail listening. You would need headphone amplifiers and tons of things to make them sound as they should. Then they're huge and as far from dj headphones you can come.
Edit: As they are for detail listening they are not really suited for professional use. Just go with 1 of very many DJ / studio headphones out there already.
If you want real headphones, you don't want skullcany, not by a long shot.
I can share my finding if you give me your budget as I have just recently bought a nice pair of headphones and reviewed others, but I am by no means an expert. The best place to go would be head-fi.com
Search those forums and you will find a plethora of answers. I tried some Sennheiser hd-280 pro headphones and thought that the bass was pretty decent. But there are definitely better options out there. It's all about your price range and preference of sound.
So far I'm not stuck on a price range. Like I said I'm not even sure what the best can offer. I'm just starting out but don't want to go too cheap and then have to buy something else not far down the road. I've seen some Sennheiser's but I'll have a look at the hd 280 pro you suggested and the site. Thanks a lot, man.
To James, you can get better sounding headphones for the same price as beats. Like I said, Head-Fi has an infinite amount of knowledge. You will probably be soaking up info from there for a few days. Take your time with this and don't be hasty in making your decision, it will pay off.
What I did is I ordered mine (it was 3 pair) from amazon, tested and compared them for about 2 to 3 weeks and then sent the other two back and only had to pay return shipping.
I will tell you this, ALL headphones have different sounds, and you need to become acquainted with what good sounds are and what aren't. I think I have a good link on like critical listening or something to determine good sound. I'll have to look for the link when I get home

Skullcany makes a mean pro headset and they come in a variety of colors so you can pop any way you want it. These are among their most popular. The ear cups are large enough that they fit over your ears instead of just laying on top of them. The pads are soft and thick so you will be comfortable during even your longest days. They sound they deliver is crisp and clear with deep bass. The ear pieces swivel, they come with a carrying case, and they are very compact and exceptionally portable. They're pretty sweet.
Edit: As they are for detail listening they are not really suited for professional use. Just go with 1 of very many DJ / studio headphones out there already.
