Best Co-op Game To Play On Valentines Day

Ever wonder what the best co-op game is to play with your significant other?

Well the Get.com community had a chance to chime in because of Mark Rad’s awesome question.

According to the 80 members who weighed in, the best co-op for PC is Portal 2 and the runner up is Borderlands!

Marcelo H. was the first to recommend Portal 2 and takes the win.

Ian Markey was the first to recommend Borderlands.

Happy Valentines day gaming everyone :)

We may not update the blog much — but the site keeps getting better and better

We’ve made a ton of changes to the site. Added around 50+ minor changes based on feedback and quite a few larger ones.

Featured Topics Updated

We’ve also revamped the “featured” topics.  The community has elected to focus on Technology products while the site is still growing, so we’ve made that happen.

It’s also been made clear what topics you all care about the most: Technology, Cameras, Computers, Games, PC Hardware, Smartphones, Software, Tablets, Televisions

Design Improvements

Many design improvements have been made to aid in usability. We’ve also worked on making the site a bit prettier, though you can tell we have a somewhat utilitarian aesthetic. Flashy sites may look nicer in a contest, but we think it’s better to design for every day utility. Based on the email we’ve received it seems plenty of you agree.

It’s still just a couple of us here at Get.com HQ in Sanata Monica, CA. We’re continuing to work our butts off being responsive to your feedback and taking the site in the direction that works the best for the community.

Big Announcement

Pretty soon we’re going to release a pretty amazing new feature on the site that we think the Get.com community will find amazing — and maybe a few other people besides.

Stay tuned for that. It’s going to be quite a ride.

Thanks

Thanks to everyone who’s been contributing to the site. We’re having a blast doing this and the feedback from everyone has been amazing.

We’ll try to update this blog more, but when it comes to choosing between improving the site and blogging we tend to favor improving the site.

Thanks,

Get.com Crew

New Question Page Design

We just released a complete re-design for our question page.  The old design was great for easily seeing the correct answer to a question.  The new design has shown massive improvement in also facilitating conversations.

In arriving at the best product choice for your needs, it is important that the community is able to communicate effectively to arrive at the best answer.

The new product page looks like this:

When you agree with someone’s suggestion, just click the “Agree” button.

On the right side of the page you will notice a voting summary like this:

If the conversation gets to long and you want to cut to the chase, click on the “percent” of the product that you want to only read about and voila, you only see conversations taking place on that page related to that product :)

Let us know what you think.  We read every single email, so don’t be shy.

Props to Olark

Olark logo

This past week we have been testing in private beta mode.  We have been using Olark.com’s chat integration software on the bottom right corner of the site.  This little beautiful piece of code allows for us to chat directly in real time with everyone on the site.  Not only just chat, but even see where the new member is on the site to help with problems and debug errors with them.

We have had some incredible hour+ long conversations with some people and it has been seriously a godsend to have this direct interaction with you to understand what we can do to make this site your site.

Thank you to everyone who has provided us feedback so far and thank you Olark for making it that much easier on them and us. :)

Next time you’re on the site, click the little box on the bottom right and chat us up and let us know your thoughts.

Product Suggest box upgrade

When answering a question by suggesting a product, we added the ability to put an Amazon.com URL directly into the product suggest box*, instead of typing the product name as usual and it will directly fetch the exact product you were looking at on Amazon.

Example screenshot below:

*The product suggestion box can be found on a question page.

This was a request from one of the people on the Awesome people list today.  Keep em coming (contact@get.com) .

Wisdom of the Crowd

crowd answering

If 50 people say one product is the right answer, it most likely is.

If you are reading a question and know the answer, contribute.

We have been accepting 100 new members per day for the past couple of days to dial things in.

The new members that are answering other peoples questions with product suggestions, reviews, and votes are incredible!  We LOVE You!

Sharing your knowledge is something you don’t get paid to do, but is done just out of the kindness in your heart and desire to help others.

Check out the list of awesome people at the Leaderboard.

Everyone is smarter because of you, thank you :)

What to Get?

Shopping.  I kinda hate shopping especially when making large purchases.  Recently, I was involved helping my mother remodel her kitchen that entailed purchasing a new stainless steel refrigerator, oven, range hood, and dishwasher.  My first thought was to simply go to the store, pick one that looks good, within our budget, and wait for it’s delivery. Call me worrisome if you must but I fear spending outrageous prices for something that can be found elsewhere for cheaper, and possibly even better quality. I want to feel I made the best choice and for a good price.

I had to do research and tons of it.  For example, most range hoods are mostly made to mount on a wall, not to overhang a kitchen island.  One side of the hood is mounted against a wall vs being entirely exposed and this lack of one side of metal for some reason causes the prices to skyrocket from approx. $100 all the way up to ~$3,000.  After doing the good old searching on Amazon and Google and going through all the options I eventually found one by Akdy for $400 which was strikingly similar to other $2500 range hoods from other brands like GE Monogram.  It arrived in two days, looked gorgeous, and operates superbly so far.  My point is, I spent all that time on something seemingly simple.

I wish there was a place like Yelp, but specifically for products.  Instead of saying “What is the best Thai food restaurant near me for about $20/person?” and getting answers from experienced foodies, I want to say, ”What is the best stainless steel island range hood for under $500?” and get answers from experienced home owners and builders.  Why doesn’t that exist?  Well it does now, Get.com ;)

We are in private beta right now, but soon you will never have to spend hours of researching what is the best product for your needs ever again.  Also, I hope with all the research you have done on products that you have purchased in the past you will feel inclined to help and provide answers for others.  Help rid the world of wasting time answering the same questions over and over.

Help people feel awesome for not only getting the best deal, but getting the perfect product.

Steven

P.S. I love the Internet. The ability to have the world’s information at your finger tips is amazing. To be able to look up every product in the world in seconds is so cool, but now with the social web, we should also be able to utilize all our experiences and knowledge to make more informed decisions together.

Where to Get it?

Where to Get itOnce you know what you want to get, the question comes up, where do I get it from?

Usually after I decide on what I want to purchase, I do a quick price check on Google Products and maybe check a couple others like Amazon, Shopzilla, etc.

After seeing the slew of products they return, not only including what I’m looking for, but everything else related to it, I peel everything away and narrow in on the one product I’m interested in.  I then proceed to check the prices and stores that the engine found product offers for. I manually have to figure out what stores I personally consider reputable and then check how much it will be with shipping and tax included.

Wouldn’t it be great if there was a service that included all the major price comparison engine results, did a great job showing which stores were trust worthy, and calculated the tax and shipping for you based on how fast you wanted it shipped?

Get.com is in private beta currently, but soon you will never want to visit another price comparison engine again. Sign up to take part of this brand new community service and let us know your thoughts :)
