Shopping. I kinda hate shopping especially when making large purchases. Recently, I was involved helping my mother remodel her kitchen that entailed purchasing a new stainless steel refrigerator, oven, range hood, and dishwasher. My first thought was to simply go to the store, pick one that looks good, within our budget, and wait for it’s delivery. Call me worrisome if you must but I fear spending outrageous prices for something that can be found elsewhere for cheaper, and possibly even better quality. I want to feel I made the best choice and for a good price.
I had to do research and tons of it. For example, most range hoods are mostly made to mount on a wall, not to overhang a kitchen island. One side of the hood is mounted against a wall vs being entirely exposed and this lack of one side of metal for some reason causes the prices to skyrocket from approx. $100 all the way up to ~$3,000. After doing the good old searching on Amazon and Google and going through all the options I eventually found one by Akdy for $400 which was strikingly similar to other $2500 range hoods from other brands like GE Monogram. It arrived in two days, looked gorgeous, and operates superbly so far. My point is, I spent all that time on something seemingly simple.
I wish there was a place like Yelp, but specifically for products. Instead of saying “What is the best Thai food restaurant near me for about $20/person?” and getting answers from experienced foodies, I want to say, ”What is the best stainless steel island range hood for under $500?” and get answers from experienced home owners and builders. Why doesn’t that exist? Well it does now, Get.com ;)
We are in private beta right now, but soon you will never have to spend hours of researching what is the best product for your needs ever again. Also, I hope with all the research you have done on products that you have purchased in the past you will feel inclined to help and provide answers for others. Help rid the world of wasting time answering the same questions over and over.
Help people feel awesome for not only getting the best deal, but getting the perfect product.

P.S. I love the Internet. The ability to have the world’s information at your finger tips is amazing. To be able to look up every product in the world in seconds is so cool, but now with the social web, we should also be able to utilize all our experiences and knowledge to make more informed decisions together.
