best program to download and record movies?

September 13, 2011 1:34 PM PDT  ·  Flag  ·  2 answers
I have a Mac laptop. I'm looking for a program I can download from the Internet or purchase so that I can download movies (such as ones I've borrowed from friends or that I own personally) to my computer and then to either my iPod or iPad...or perhaps to another DVD. Can anyone help?

I would also suggest Handbreak for encoding, its great!.
For D/L check out protocols not programs. Example NNTP.

There isn't a lot of programs out there that can do all of this for you. It will actually take 2 different programs. One that will download or rip the DVD to your computer and one that wil encode it. Essentially encoding is giving your ripped DVD the right settings for the movie to be viewed. For example if you want to watch the movie on your iPad, it will have different setting compared to if you want to watch it on your iPhone.

For encoding I use Handbrake which is free and for ripping there are a lot of different programs out there. You can check on CNET or Download.com to find what that works for you.
