Best gaming keyboard company?

February 19, 2012 11:16 AM PST  ·  Flag  ·  14 answers
I currently have an original Logitech G15 (the one with all 18 macro buttons), and I am looking to possibly upgrade. I am looking at the SW:TOR branding Razer keyboard with the touch screen and lcd macro buttons. It is a bit pricey ($250), so I am looking around at other options. I am trying to figure out where I should buy, Logitech, Razer, etc. A lcd screen on the keyboard is a bonus. Also my main game is SW:TOR so not really FPS but MMO.

Integrated USB Audio: Strategize in clear digital audio Separate headphone and mic jacks and mute buttons let you use any analog headset with 35 mm plugs as a USB audio device

I don't know how it compares to the one you have but it does have an LCD screen and it's a popular purchase among gamers. Good brand quality and significantly less expensive that the Razer keyboard you're looking at, although the Razer looks pretty sweet too.

I believe that this is the newer version of the same one I have. It sounds almost exactly the same. But thank you for the answer!

Agreed. Logitech is probably the best all around for keyboards and other accessories. Their products are always well thought out and functional.
On a side note, I would also recommend Microsoft's Sidewinder. Backlit keys, soft touch, very nice in general.

You can program the heck out of this keyboard (program every key). Anti-ghosting and you can disable the Windows key. Also, has a comfy wrist rest and it doesn't bother me, even when I play for hours.

Honestly unless there's a problem with your keyboard it's not worth upgrading, if you're really looking for something you help you in SWTOR then a Razer Naga mouse is a good idea.

I personally love mechanical keyboards- they have better response time and longer durability. The Blackwidow is amazing to type on.

  Mechanical Keyboard Guide

I recently purchased a QPAD mechanical keyboard after reading up on the advantages of switching to mechanical keyboard with Cherry MX Blue switches, and it's a great experience.
Not only has my typing speed increased, but it really feels great to use!

There are many high-profile mechanical keyboards out there, such as the aforementioned Razer Blackwidow, and the infamous Das Keyboard.

The linked article really offers a lot of insight into the advantages of using a mechanical keyboard over a traditional "rubber-dome" one (such as nearly all of Logitech's keyboards, even the G-series).
There are several types of mechanical switches available, and they all feel different. Some – like black and red – are usually considered better for gaming, while others – like blue and brown – are considered better for typing.

What's important to understand is that with a mechanical keyboard, you are paying for a keyboard that not only will last for ages, but also one that actually feels great to use. Not a lot of extra (arguably useless) macro buttons and other flashy stuff (Although some, like some of the more expensive QPAD ones, do feature macro keys).

Even if you don't end up buying one, I recommend giving the article a read. =)

Thermaltake is also getting a good name for making gaming keyboards.

Thermaltake Challenger Pro is worth mentioning, it's a great and very robust keyboard and not very expensive.

I've had my Microsoft Sidewinder for around 4 years now? Though if I were to get a new keyboard I would get a mechanical keyboard. Maybe a Razer Black Widow or a Leopold Cherry Black keyboard. :)

All the steelseries brute durability, with a bunch of macro buttons.

I use a Steelseries 6GV2, similar but no macro buttons, and it is great.
