This is a basic and affordable organizer that actually looks really similar to what I had when I was a kid. It's got pockets on all sides for extra organizing.

My husband is in construction so he generally opts to build our closet organizers, however, when we made a recent move into a rental he chose to use this set up. It does the job well at the very least and I can make changes quickly and easily without needing to wait for my husband to get home and help me out. I love it for the kids rooms because I can have a higher and lower bar for more clothing to fit and then use the other side for shoes, toys, etc. It's pretty great.
We use these in our closets for both the kid's rooms and ours. They are really easy to create almost anything you need and they are inexpensive. I've created shelves and then buy cloth boxes for toys or other items that might fall through the holes. They really are handy and if the kids wreck it I feel a whole lot worse about it than I might if it was a nice wood creation.
