Railroad Simulator and all its DLC.

Seems like the vote is near unanimous with Team Fortress II. I'm not a big fan of TF2, I enjoy games such as League of Legends, and various F2P MMORPGs such as Dragon Nest by Nexon and Realm of the Mad God.
Have you played Penumbra? Penumbra is a game created by the makes of Amnesia for the PC as well. It's quite intense!
I've been playing quite a bit of League of Legends lately, it's a great game.
Dragon Nest by Nexon is also a very high quality game; Dragon Nest is an instanced fighting MMORPG, in which you actually have to fight, kill. and dodge monsters, not just point-click-wait.
Go ahead and try defragmenting your computer; Windows 7 comes with a default defragmenting program, but I suggest Defraggler.
I feel as though Vindictus is entirely full of botters, hackers, and glitchers, and I'm more of a fan of Dragon Nest myself.
I'd agree with the others here; do some work around the house and what not.
More importantly, as Nicholas has suggested, waiting for some sort of sale on SW:TOR would be your best option, in combination with housework.
Goodluck!
What kind of computer specifications did you have when you registered for the Beta?
I'm definitely a fan of Darker than Black and Code Geass.
There's really not that much out there aside from Starcraft II in terms of newer, very well-made Real Time Strategy games.
EIGHT BLASTOISE.
Garry's Mod and Oblivion (any Besthesda game, really) have amazing modding capabilities.
Borderlands and Magicka are great games, if you want to try them out.
In order to get a better FPS, I'd actually say that buying a better video card is your main concern.
If you're looking to play on-line, then Starcraft II or the most recent Warhammer 40k RTS will be your best bet. Some older, amazing, games were Age of Empires II, Red Alert II, and Empire Earth.
Having to fight through an actual combat system, not just point-click-wait, is definitely the selling point of TERA. I personally love the system that they're using.
I'm more of a fan of Real Time Strategies myself, I love that element of skill/precision.
If Mojang were to put Minecraft onto Steam, they would have to pay royalties to Steam; it's just a much higher profit margin by distributing it themselves.
I had a lot of fun with Call of Duty: World at War when it was first released.
Oh, without a doubt, Starcraft II. Age of Empires III/II are up there on my list, though!
This game here is one of the best I've ever played in the city-building genre.
I don't think so; the hype died down after release. The hype of the game was its driving factor, in my opinion.
League of legends is quite an amazing game if you're into strategy/MOBA.
Not sure about the biggest, but the most expensive LEGO item is the Quality value Lego Duplo Playwall at $11,000.00.
I play it quite a bit, it's definitely a fun game.
Every year or so when my plan is renewed my provider offers a phone upgrade.
Dwarf Fortress is good, but has a GIGANTIC learning curve, and an indie game called CubeWorld seems very similar.
There wasn't really that much hype over FEAR 1 or FEAR 2 either, so that might compound with the other issues that everyone else is bringing up.
It's definitely a great game, but I feel the same as Ryan and Trevor, that it does indeed get extremely boring.
There's a few sites like Steamgifts.com whose goal it is to have good free steam giveaways.
I'd check around e-bay or Criags for a good deal.
The little game where you could spend the rings you earned on the GBA version of Sonicon the pet character.
Typically any game from the Wii game system should be perfect to play as a family.
Oh, Sonic of course. I can't think of any SEGA game that comes close.
Try starting the game from the beginning again, to see if it doesn't lag at that point.
I'd like to see it do well, but with the recent release that Halo 4 will have "Perks" and "Loadouts," I'm not exactly sure how great the game will be.
GIMP is a good photo editing tool, I've used it a bit myself.
Probably about 300 hours a month.
I think we're going to deep into the reasoning behind why we love video games so much. They are just truly extremely entertaining.
Grab the little ties from the bread packages and use them to keep the cords together, it makes them easier to hide/manage.
To add onto Tomas's response: Pokemon and Skyrim would make an amazing mashup.
Darker Than Black has been the best anime I've ever watched. Death Note was pretty good as well.
Star Wars Battlefront II was one of the games that defined my childhood. I loved the old campaign mode in which you chose which planet to take over and what not.
Google Docs has a good powerpoint feature.
I thought that Bastion was a great game myself.
Dungeon Defenders is only like $15.00 on Steam.
I've spent quite a good amount of time messing around on that game, it's extremely fun.
Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core was definitely one of my favourite RPGs to date.
Age of Empires, Empire Earth, or Warcraft III are great games.
To be frank, if you want to always have a full game, then Modern Warfare III is a good game for the 360.
I typically make my character bad in most games.
The Das Keyboard company has some AMAZING keyboards.
Just make sure to have the drivers up to date. You can do this through your manufacturer, or through Windows 7 update.
Brawl really killed the series for me, compared to Melee/N64, to be honest. Brawl didn't have the same flow that I felt the other two had. Of course, I'll still be playing the WiiU version of the game whenever I have the chance.
I can't see why they'd release it for the 3DS also, I feel like they are just milking the game.
A bit of Grooveshark for the playlists/easibility of finding a song, and Spotify for mixing up songs that I already love.
Anything with a Suppor Zilean/ Carry Trynamere combination. Me and my friend do this all the time. 30s ressurection time + tower dive is intense.
I'd wait up for the newest Sim City that is currently in production.
It gives the F2P game developers another outlet for an immense amount of people to join their game, and an incessant stream of new players.
I'd buy it used for extremely cheap, people are trying to get rid of them.
I really don't feel like we should be comparing the three best consoles to date, but if I really need to present an opinion: SNES was my favourite. I still remember playing Sim City I, and sending out waves upon waves of Godzillas to destroy the city I had been creating.
Try out Bastion!
I really do hope! Crisis Core was probably my favourite Final Fantasy game from the entire series!
Try out Vessel, it's currently for sale through Steam.
There's no RTS better than Starcraft I or II, in my opinion. Age of Empires II and III come close, though.
Borderlands was an amazing game when I played it, although due to the flaw of only allowing two players per console, it never ended well within my group of friends.
Rise of the Immortals was a good DotA/LoL clone. I had also wasted a good portion of my life on games by Nexon/Aeria Games/Gamers First.
I remember when my parents gave me a GameBoy Colour and Pokemon Red. . . . Great year.
I own the Creative Fatal1ty headset right now, and I've had no problems at all with it. The quality is amazing for both audio and input, and it fits much more comfortably than every other headset I've ever worn.
From what I've been seeing. . . no, the Razer Megalodon will not work at all with your PS3.
Although it's no where near the best, I personally love my Motorola Defy phone, I haven't been able to use any of my friend's phones with as much success as I've had with mine.
Getting a group of people together that don't just constantly make penis towers.
Dark Souls, Super Meat Boy, BattleToads, Water Temple, I Wanna' Be That Guy
The next FIFA game should be coming out. Those are typically extremely good.
I really think it's because of how great every other Bioware game is. The style of story, combat, everything is well made.
I personally liked Dead Island more, but that was because it was more of an open-world RPG.
Oh, definitely Final Fantasy VII, this game created my childhood, along with Super Mario 64.
I really think that EVE is the only truely great space combat simulator game out of any that have a really big multiplayer opportunity.
Jack and Daxter/Rachet and Clank were some great games.
Nothing beats the N64 in my book!
Playing BattleToads.
When the storyline had just been continued to be milked and drawn out to the point where it wasn't interesting anymore.
As you could tell by my avatar, Starcraft II would definitely be my favourite game of the last two years, hell, the last five years.
Don't judge me. Me and my friends spent countless hours on animal crossing as kids when that system game out.
Zacko from Final Fantasy VII:Crisis Core.
Nostalgiaing hardcore just by thinking of this game. Damn tentacools not letting me get to Cinnabar Island.
Right here. Final Fantasy VII was the best game ever, I'd definitely reccomend it to someone from this generation.
DAWN OF THE FINAL DAY.
I went with the sniper/hunter guy. Haven't played that game in forever though.
Fallen Earth is a cool idea, but it doesn't have a good looting system in my opinion. Very hard to control.
Starcraft II no doubt. I liked Age of Empires II and III too, though.
I use T-Mobile, as it's much cheaper than the alternatives for my area.
Anything BUT Rosetta Stone.
Rosetta Stone is known for being extremely good for learning the vocabulary, and nothing more really. Personally, I'd go with Pimsleur or Michel Thomas.
Almost any of the glitches in Mario N64 were so funn.
Call of Duty tries to take a more one-man-army fast paced kind of game compared to BattleField III. I'm not really a fan of that, as it's not nearly as realistic.
Captcha typically works, but it makes it more irritating for the users.
TERA has a very cool fighting and politics system, but I find that Guild Wars II seems to be of higher quality and I'd rather wait around for it.
Won GTA:IV Complete Collection myself!
I haven't been able to use the old texting system ever since I got a QWERTY pad on my phone. No thank you!
We do not know when D3 is going to come out, but hopefully soon!
Gunna' go with the Witch Doctor class myself!
I personally would wait for a few years to help keep their eyes from having complications from staring at the bright screen for so long, even with extensive breaks.
I'd suggest the HTC Titan.
I played the shit out of this game as a kid. Probably one of my most enjoyed games.
Team Fortress II, and League of Legends are pretty amazing games.
I found the Resident Evil games to be pretty good, but games based on movies, or vice versa, typically turn out terrible.
Weegee!
Definitely going to have to go with Gran Turismo V. But although GT5 was amazing, I enjoyed Forza IV for the 360 more myself.
Team Fortress II, League of Legends and DotA2 make up the Free-to-play games that I typically play.
Bulbasaur. Bitches don't know about my solarbeam.
I haven't been a big fan of the Assassin's Creed series lately, but with this new setting, Ubisoft just made $60.00.
Final Fantasy VII's prequel, Crisis Core was for sure my favourite of the FF series. Although FFVII itself has aged rather well, Crisis Core combines its superior plot, adds a few more emotional elements, and puts it together with a more modern, not turn-based gameplay. The video of the game was phenomenal, as with the voice acting.
Oh, for sure a game full of more action. Run and Fetch style gameplay is extremely slow, typically cancerously boring, and if it had the same style of storyline, but the gameplay was more intense, it'd be a much better game to me.
I am also a really big fan of World of Goo.
I had a Nokia just like Jerry, with a rather limited 120 minutes a month plan for the entirety of my family, which four of us had little phones.
I actually believe this this laptop from Newegg would be a much better deal:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8...
You get the same amount of RAM, but it is quad-core instead of dual core, and has 140GB more hard memory. The video card in the laptop is the Radeon HD 6620G, which is respectable, albeit I prefer Nvidia chip cards myself, but the Radeon HD 6620G, in conjunction with the 6GB RAM/Quad-core should be able to run anything you'd want.
The screen is roughtly 2 inches smaller, but for a higher spec product at a lower cost, it should be a worthy investment.
Total cost: $679.99
Definitely the Google Augmented Reality glasses.
Some things to consider are the types of games that you enjoy; personally I think, in deciding between what games to choose, you need to look at the individual genres of gaming:
RPG: Good suggestion would be Bastion, Half-Life I and II, or Minecraft.
Creative: Back to Minecraft again.
Strategy: Age of Empires II or III, Starcraft II, Civilization IV, are some great games.
Puzzle/Thinking: Portal I and II
Healer, for sure!
There's no doubt about it. IF you have a good budget, the Das is the way to go for using a keyboard exclusively for typing.
They are also used quite extensively for PC Gaming.
Pokemon Snap, Zelda: OoT/Zelda: Majoras Mask, Banjo Tooie, Super Smash Bros. . .
Too many great games to count.
I'm hoping all goes well with Guild Wars II!
There's not really many good Jap RPGs on the PC market, PC gaming wasn't extremely popular during the time that this genre had exploded.
The only game I can find that seems respectable would be Fortune Summoners, on Steam. There's a demo available as well.
http://store.steampowered.com/app/203510/
MMOHut and MMORPG.com also have an expansive Beta section.
Fall Out New Vegas broke the record for the most amount of dialogue text in a video game when it was released, so that might be an indicator of a long storyline.
I perosnally love FFVII+Crisis Core more, myself.
I use either Wallbase.cc, or flickr to find wallpapers for my computer.
This is the headset I currently use, and the one that I have loved the most out of all of my headsets. The quality of this device is extremely top notch, while it has a relatively low price.
This is my current headset, it's extremely cheap, but has an extremely high quality.
Definitely check out Bastion from Steam.
BattleToads, QWOP, or Dark Soul are great contenders for that title.
This is the one I currently use. Highest DPI for the price on the market at over 5000 DPI.
Plus it comes with a weighting system and multiple grips.
My thoughts behind this switch are one that believe that SOE will be releasing a new title in the future, and having more people with a small Everquest background, or a renewal of nostaliga for the game would benefit them in marketing the new game.
The overall best SSD on the market would be the Kingston HyperX 120GB @$200.00
http://pcpartpicker.com/part/kingston-internal-har...
Realistically, though, I'd pick up the:
Crucial M4 64GB @$85.00
The main thing you want to look for are:
Memory size
Physical size
and the reputation of the company
Getting the Pro version of Fraps will also cut out the small FRAPS logo during filming. It's a must for any sort of professional work.
I have set up my hotmail account to forward all my messages to my gmail account.
From there, I can access most of my mail through my various accounts on one source.

Sure it's not addiction? <3

Sephiroth from FFVII.
Open-world 3-D Pokemon MMORPG.
Think of how many buyers that game would get.
Cloud from the Final Fantasy VII storyline for sure.
Battlefield seemed to rely less on random bullshit tactics, and more on actual knowledge and skill at the game.
The first game that I can remember playing was Doom, followed by Starcraft I, and then some various N64 games ported to an emulator.
I'mma let you finish but, I don't care about these new Skyrims and Call of Warfares.
The Nintendo 64 was one of the best consoles of all time. Of all time.
I'd personally spend the money on another tablet, as you can get a higher spec product althought without the OSX operating system, for much cheaper.
Myself I'd go for the PS3 to play on-line, as I'd rather get it for free than on a monthly fee.
There was this guy at Blizzcon 2010(?) that asked some rather in-depth questions to the Blizzard Lore panel, who were completely stumped by the questions.
Blizzard made this guy into an NPC, at the right hand of the guy who the panel thought was dead, Falstad Wildhammer.

I loved Battlefield III myself. I'm sure it's a little mainstream and unoriginal to say, but the game definitely had among the highest quality of any FPS that I have ever played.
Aside from the typical Facebook, Google, e-mail service, etc, I personally love the site Reddit; it always has something new and interesting.
I would personally go with the Droid Razr, I feel as though you can get the same experience with it as with the iPhone 4S, but at a cheaper cost.
If it has to be one of the two, I'd love to see Half Life (3) more than another MGS. The main rationale behind this would be because any new MGS game will come out for the PS3 or the PS Vita, of which I have neither.
I don't own one personally, but the idea of 3D feels like its just a fad. I can't imagine sitting and watching one myself.
Guild Wars II is currently the only game I'm waiting for.
I've been waiting this game for forever now. Thank god it's being released soon.
Spent way too much time with this game as a child.
I'll agree with Brad. The game definitely looks beautiful, but it seems like it'll lose its playability very quickly.
Alien Swarm is good, if your friends do not have a very good computer.
Metro 2033 is known to have even higher graphics than Crysis extended and Battlefield III. It's an intense game.
It's definitely not!
No RPG has ever come close to Final Fantasy VII for me.
Monk seemed like a lot of fun, as with the Witch Doctor.
PS Vita is just the PSP with a touch screen. Hold out for better game releases before purchasing.
I personally like games like Dungeon Defenders.
Yess. Haven't played my Atari for years.
I just wonder how much the battery will last with all the internet connectivity it'll require. Also, would the 3G work under our phone's dataplan, or would it require another? Too many unanswered questions about the augmented reality glasses for me to really have an opinion on it.
I think you'll be able to dodge the censorship, depends on the platform that you're buying the game on.
I actually cannot think of any game that had a better sequel than original. Testimate to sequels, I guess.
No doubt about it. Gotta' go with The Lion King, myself.
I had my Motorola Defy rooted a few weeks back. It's much faster and nicer to use now.
Mechwarrior!
Oh man, I miss that game so much.
If you don't already have a good standing with the lua script language, I'd go ahead and find someone willing to teach you.
On another note, the lua manual (current version 5.2) will become one of your best friends- it contains methods the lua creators have personally made that can be used in various situations.

Depends on how heavy the Blizzard custom games terms of service was, I haven't personally read it.
I've wasted hours upon hours on League of Legends; it's a great game!
The HTC Titan 2 currently has the highest megapixel camera that I can find, at 16MP, compared to the iPhone's 8MP.
I currently use this laptop for gaming, it should work rather well for the next few years.
Without a doubt, Fable I.
This is the laptop I currently use for running games such as LoL.
It will definitely be an origin exclusive game, as it is an EA game. EA needs to push their new distribution model.
Definitely the BattleTech/MechWarrior series.
Wait around on steam for something to go into Midweek madness, or some other sale.
I'm not sure that you easily get a legal key for this price. Try checking out ebay/Criag's List.
I'd like to see the Fallout setting to be a little more in-land, more towards the epicentre of the disaster.
I personally loved the storyline/gameplay of Final Fantasy VII's prequel, Crisis Core.
Guild Wars II without a doubt!
The new VLG does, but it is still quite buggy.
Check out various MMO distributers, like GamersFire, Nexon, Aeria Games, and K2 Games.
These headsets are the ones I currently use, and come down to $20.00 on Newegg.com quite often. Amazing quality, and very cheap.
Buy a can of compressed air, hold it sideways and dust it off.

I'm with Eugene on this, building your own PC will get you a much better computer in the long-run.

After using the PS Vita, I feel as though it's a bulky, touch-screen, PSP. I will not be buying the PS Vita.

I don't think we'll see and actual "ending" to the Assassin's Creed series in the near future. The game will continue to be milked sequel after sequel.
I'd suggest the C310, myself. The quality from this webcam is amazing.
Oh, they won't release Half-Life III for quite a long time.
Valve will make it similar to Duke Nukem, without sucking after it's released.

I played a bit of Slash'Em when I was bored, but the skill level seemed higher than that of Dungeons of Dredmore.

I'm definitely looking forward to this game! Time to scare myself to death on steam at 2:30AM again!

If you have the airflow to allow a super-clocked 560TI, it's one of the best cards on the market to go with for its price.
The best Diablo-esque game that I have seen is Path of Exile. This game is currently in Closed Beta, but is near exactly what I want to get out of Diablo III.
Without a a doubt: Metro2033.
The game on maximum settings outclasses games like Crysis anyday.
Borderlands is definitely your cheapest options for a very, very well done open-world game.
Heavy is the most amazing character in that game.
SANDVICH?
I personally love mechanical keyboards- they have better response time and longer durability. The Blackwidow is amazing to type on.
I can only recommend STALKER Call of Pripyat, if you liked another game from the STALKER series.
I'd have to agree with Becca, the GTX 580 is a much more proven videocard than the Kepler. If you've got the airflow to support a superclocked GTX 580, I'd go for it.
Well, I did a bit of research for another question that was asked, and I feel as though the Corsair H100 would be your best bet.

"Players with saved files from Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 will be given the option of importing them into Mass Effect 3.[18] If a saved file is imported, over 1,000 variables will be pulled that will help shape how the final chapter is experienced.[19] If there are no saved files available, there will be no origin-story comic for new players to help them make quick decisions like there was in Mass Effect 2.[20] Imported characters' appearance and class will be changeable, with more features and hair-styles included in the character creator than in Mass Effect 2.[6][21] Commander Shepard will always start the game with some powers.[17]" - Wikipedia.org
Thanks to Jacob for pointing this out.

The only negetive reviews for this netbook is one guy who tried to run Ubuntu on it, and another who has abnormally large hands. With an extremely high RAM/HDD for the size, the Acer Aspire seems to be one of the best netbooks out there.

Ever try Rift? I personally loved the game when I had played.

I played Dark Elf myself, they're pretty good when it comes to sneaking/archery.

Have you tried Tiger Direct, Future Shop, and Newegg? I can't access the canadian version of those sites, but I'm sure you can find a good deal there.

Bastion from Steam is an excellent game within your price range.

I'd suggest the EVGA GeForce GTX 560 1GB Video Card, I currently use the GTX 550 TI myself and have no problems running anything, but to get the most cost-effective purchase I'd suggest this one.

Currently going for $179.99 with free shipping after mail-in rebate.

I love the Battlefield series! Battlefield III was not only fun to play, but beautiful to look at. In my opinion, the main drawback to Battlefield III was its required use of Origin, but that can be easily circumvented now.
Goodluck, mate!
After looking up your problem on the Internet, here's something you can try:
1) Go to your bf3.exe
Typically located at: C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Battlefield 3
2) Right click bf3.exe and select "properties"
3) Go to the "compatibility" tab within the properties window.
4} In the settings section, check "Disable visual themes" and "Disable desktop composition"
5) Click "apply" and "ok"

One of my friends currently has the Avail, and definitely loves it, although he wishes the camera was a little bit better (albeit is it one of the better cameras on a phone), he says it's extremely easy to use.
Goodluck!

As Robert has said, there doesn't seem to be a good way to switch out graphics cards in this laptop. The laptop allows for you to expand the RAM from 4GB to 8GB, this might be a better bet to increase performance.
Definitely any game from the Final Fantasy series, would be your best bet.

I would predict for the iPhone 5 to come out late Q2, 2012.

If you have Windows 7, go ahead and do a Window Update; this will gather all of the newest updates to all of your computer's hardware.

The Razer Black Widow is one of the best keyboards I've ever used; the ultimate version is backlit.

Jacob's game had reminded me of The Legend of Zelda series.
This man went through hordes of enemies, saved the world multiple times, and then gets friend-zone'd by the girl he's been trying to save.

Looks like a pick-up and hold trackball mouse combination Wiimote.

I would definitely go with the Cooler Master Storm Scout ATX Mid Tower Case, it is designed to be spacy as to allow airflow, which albeit isn't as necessary with liquidcooling as opposed to air, but the extra space leaves enough room for the liquidcooling to function properly. The Coolmaster Storm Scout only runs up $69.00 on Amazon.com with free shipping.
I would not suggest a LCD screen in a dark room; the lighting is not uniform enough. I personally would use the LED screen, as they are much more energy efficient as opposed to the plasma.
I'm definitely looking forward to Guild Wars II the most out of everything coming out in 2012.
Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm is a close second.
This would be my suggestion to you, at the budget given in your reply.
What's your budget? I'd be happy to edit this post with something good if you can give me that.

This camera is currently $58.99 at Overstock.com, it features a 14MP camera, which is slightly better than one of the newer iPhone/iTouches that are currently out, and nearly all of the Droid phones.
If you're willing to spend over $75.00, I'd go ahead and visit a nearby electronics store and see if they can make a deal for a 16MP camera or higher, which will take better pictures.

While Final Fantasy VII had some great romantic moments, it pails in comparison to it's prequel, Crisis Core's, romance between the main character, Zack Fair and Aeris.

I'm going to go straight for the most obvious answer you'd get for this topic, and say Amnesia: The Dark Descent.

I would say the exact opposite; with a MacBook, all of your parts must come from one manufacturer, Apple, which exponentially increases the price for performance.

If you have a high quality mouse, try the Rosewill Memory Foam Mouse Pad. It currently runs up $9.99, with free shipping at Newegg.

From experience, I feel as thought the Razer BlackWidow is probably the best keyboard I have ever used to-date. All of the keys seem to flow, the response rate is near instant, and, as a bonus, the keys click quite a bit.
Another much cheaper alternative to the Anasi or the BlackWidow would be the Microsoft Sidewinder, although the quality is slightly lower.

I'm definitely a fan of Samsung TVs; this comes from personal experience rather than documented sources, though.

I would call the Nintendo's customer support, they're pretty good:
1-800-255-3700
Also, Ace Attorney is one of my favourite series, you're awesome.
I typically order all of my parts from Newegg, but I'm going to go out on a limb here, and say that the get.com's product search is actually extremely good for price-checking and finding respectable deals on other sites.
Another great spot is http://pcpartpicker.com, which takes into account various discounts like mail-in rebates, and gives a Price-Per-Gigabyte etc.

I don't exactly endorse watercooling over the traditional fan, so I can't give you a proper recommendation, but do you really need a full watercooling loop to support a GTX 580 even with some more heat intensive devices? Seems like the built-in would do more than justice, unless your computer is not out in the open. This is just my personal opinion, I don't have much experience with watercooling. Goodluck, though!

Depending on the programs your office would require you to use (especially in the case of design work), you may have to increase the RAM slightly, but an i3 should be able to handle most buisiness office work.
I would reccomend this laptop over the MacBook for traveling anyday; it much cheaper, but should be able to run with a higher speed and memory capacity. Although the screen is slightly bigger, the battery-life is supposed to last extremely long, at approximately 4hr~6hr, depending on how intensely you use it.

Steam has a much better treatment of Indie game developers, and that is important to me.

This answer is the generic one I give for all questions regarding gaming PCs under $1000:
Intel Core i5 Quad-Core: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/intel-cpu-bx80623i525...
Cooler Master Hyper cooler: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/cooler-master-cpu-coo...
ASRock Motherboard: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asrock-motherboard-p6...
8GB Patrio DDR3 RAM: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/patriot-memory-pxd38g...
EVGA 650 Ti Video Card: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-video-card-01gp3...
500W Power Supply: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/apex-power-supply-ald...
This will run you up approximately ~$625.00 after shipping, with the only thing you needing to buy after is a monitor, a tower, a hard-drive, a mouse, and a keyboard.
Since you are a fan of the traditional HDD, I suggest the:
Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB 3.5" 5400RPM: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/western-digital-inter...
This HDD holds 1TB of memory, and has an extremely high cache memory space of 64mb.
Including the HDD brings up the approximate price to ~$725.00, before monitor, tower, mouse, and keyboard. If you're really into gaming, I'd try and convince you to buy a mechanical keyboard such as the Razor Black Widow, and some sort of high DPI mouse.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask away.

I've reused this answer before, but I personally love the site Co-Optimus for finding co-op games. Here's a direct link to every co-op Wii game. Top games are: New Super Mario Bros. (Which I do not recommend.), Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Kirby's Return to Dreamland (Pretty great game if you can get into it) and Monster Hunter Tri.

I had received a copy of GTA:IV Complete Edition a few days ago, sent via e-mail and activated over Steam; although I personally enjoy answering questions with a bit of my spare free-time. The staff all seem like nice guys whenever I send in feedback as well.

http://armedgamer.com/2011/11/battlefield-3-origin...
Battlefield III had Origin stripped from it by the "RAZOR1911" team, I'm sure Mass Effect 3 will get the same treatment. I can't find anything on the legality of this, but a few of my friends have done it with BF3 and had no repercussions.

Magicka is a pretty amazing, although it lacks the actual need for a team.
If you're into shooters, then try out Killing Floor and/or Nation Red.
Have you tried playing Minecraft or Terraria?
You could try going through an extensive list at: http://www.co-optimus.com/games.php

This one is 16 gigabytes, at $18.99.

Have you tried the Bioshock series yet?

I personally loved Dragon Nest when I played it; I'm sure it would be a fit according to what you've said you like!
EverQuest actually announced that they are going free to play just a few days ago; it's a classic that is definitely worth a look at when it goes free in March!
On a completely different note, if you enjoyed games like World of Warcraft and Age of Empires, why not combine them and try out Starcraft II?

I feel like this laptop would fit you needs quite perfectly. Not only does it have enough power to run various games, but the battery-life is extremely long.
I was a fan of those time-management style of games before, I played games like Evony, Ceasary, and Call of Roma quite religiously. It's a similar style to BigFishGames, but they are mainly based on PvP and working with others once you get into it.

Anything from Frictional Games is a definite must if you're into Paranormal games; this developer has created Amnesia and Penumbra, and is currently in the work on more.

Newegg is a great source, as with Get.com's item lookup, although it will not take into account special deals at various sites such as mail-in rebates.

I have Dead Island for the PC and 360, and I personally love this game. Dead Island is very similar to Borderlands in game-play, and it's open-endedness is probably the most well-done I've seen.

Probably the one most people want is "Anonymous" or "Winner", generic names like that. Personally, I like names that aren't common at all.

I persoanlly use Softsoap, and buy it in bulk. Typically, when a bottle gets to about the half-point mark, I fill it partially back up with just water and it works just as good.

Half-Life was originally designed for the PC, then ported over to the console; knowing this, I would stick with the PC version, unless you are a die-hard console fan.
Now that the PS Vita is out, and I have personally messed around with one, I can definitely say that the Vita did not live up the the hype that I felt like it had. Although the touch-screen feels natural, the Vita itself seems extremely lightweight, yet bulky, and strikingly similar to the PSP.
I'd look into Batman Arkham City, Forza IV, Assassin's Creed: Revelations, Saints Row III, and Dark Souls- these games had among the highest ratings during past year.
Spoiler alert: The plot will take place in some sort of post-apocolyptic society.
On a more serious note, information about Fallout 4 has not been released or hinted at yet- there are some sites with user's opinions on what the game should be based off of.
I feel as though The Old Republic definitely had some good hype, and as expected lived up to much of that hype. The way that they have been administrating the site, however, leads me to believe that it will devolve into a grind-fest. If you haven't played an MMORPG before, I'd definitely consider looking into gameplay videos, and making sure you can devote a little bit of time into it if you want to stay on pace with friends/etc. Goodluck!

The GTX550 (Fermi) will run nearly everything that is to be released in the next year or so with ease, and after mail-in rebate the price comes down to nearly $100.00 at Newegg.

This laptop is extremely cheap in comparison to the MacBook, but should be able to run with a higher speed and memory capacity. The screen is slightly bigger than the MacBook, and the battery-life is supposed to last extremely long, at approximately 4hr~6hr, depending on how intensely you use it.

Many of the users here are talking about not buying Battlefield III due to the Origin service. Luckily, someone has released a way to circumvent this, and run the game without Origin.

Not only is the server shared, some believe that it is simply not worth the price, if they have a spare computer that can act as a Virtual Machine.

The only negetive reviews for this netbook is one guy who tried to run Ubuntu on it, and another who has abnormally large hands. With an extremely high RAM/HDD for the size, the Acer Aspire seems to be one of the best netbooks out there.

I typically don't do a full upgrade until one of the main components of my computer dies off. I feel as though upgrading parts such as the CPU/Video card/etc once a game begins to run slow, or it also dies off works well enough for me.
One of my friends actually upgraded from the Inspire to the Blackberry Torch a few days ago; apparently nearly every aspect of the Torch is MUCH better than the Inspire.

I would definitely recommend the Pimsleur or Michel Thomas language learning system. I have personally used both of these for French, and my speaking and comprehension have improved near ten-fold. The style used is that of a podcast, but with the speaker have a conversation with his/her students.
I actually use one of those currently called: "Smart Alarm." The Lite version has a small advert at the bottom.
Basically, what it does, is uses an accelerometre to detect when you begin to shift in your sleep around the time you set for you alarm, and it will wake you up when this happens. It also monitors the shiftyness at night, and the amount of sleep you got that night.

I currently work as a graphics designer for a few websites; while GIMP is a fairly respectable program, there's almost no substitute for Adobe Photoshop. The amount of things you can do with it, and it's speed make it unbeatable in the Photo-editing world.
If I did not have Photoshop, nor could not get it, I would definitely start using Coral Painter.
I currently use, and love, the Logitech G9X; it's high DPI (up to 5700), durability, simplicity, and weighting system make it the best mouse I've ever owned. It's currently $65.00 at most sites, but I have seen it as low as $45.00.
The Creatieve Fatal1ty headset is what I currently use; it works wonders. At it's low price, it has an extremely high quality microphone, and a very respectable sound quality. Many people don't like the shape of the earpiece, which is slightly oval, but I personally love it more than others.
I've seen this particular headset as cheap as $27.00 before, but at the current price of $32.50, it's still a bargain!
Adobe is my preferred software developer for any sort of editing- it always provides extremely high-quality products. Adobe Soundbooth had been simple and easy to use when I needed it.
SoundBooth CS5 is quite expensive, but CS4/CS3 work just as well.
I've seen people use sites like Vimeo to show off a potential product, and in combination with Tumblr/Reddit/Facebook it can potentially take-off from there.
If you truely have a great idea and don't wish to give out ideas like it on these types of sites, then either finding a good friend with the PHP/SQL knowledge or learning it yourself will be a priority.
Goodluck!
There are various companies that market multiple MMORPGs out there, such as Nexon, GamersFirst, and AeriaGames; I'd hit up their sites and see if anything interests you!
I would actually consider starting them on a slightly cheaper camera, around the $100.00~$150.00 range to see if they really do run with it and take off before making the investment on an extremely high-quality one. The difference between the pictures will be nominal anyways, to say the least.
Check out Bastion!
I have heard some amazing things about "Bastion," an Indie Action/Roleplaying game, other than what I've already preached in the past. This game is definitely one of the best games currently on Steam.
The current price is $15.00, but it usually comes down to below $10.00 during sales.
As I personally use T-Mobile, I feel like the MyTouch, or any sort of Blackberry would be the best for texting. Currently, it is offered for free with a contract and web-discount. The MyTouch has both a touchscreen, and a QWERTY keyboard that can be used for texting, and it's versatility is matched by its 4G capabilities.
Edit: Seems like the link provided changed to some sort of Netbook. Sorry about that.
I'll definitely agree with Jacob on the fact that Battlefield III was definitely one of the top shooters out currently. I feel like some of the older Call of Duty games may also be well up there, as with Team Fortress, and Bioshock.
The Mass Effect 3 Demo was pretty good, but I don't feel like it lived up to the hype that was given to it.
I'm sure it'll still be a remarkable game.
I would personally go with either the Wii or the XBOX360 for an eight year old, as they have a much larger selection of games, and more games within an eight year old's demographic.
Have you tried out League of Legends?
If you're looking into MMOs/free shooters, Aeria Games and Nexon have a very wide selection.
Definitely Zilean. I typically play support, and he's an amazing champion to do so; you can build his items so that his resurrection skill can be used every 15 seconds!
The best RPG I've ever played on the PC is a toss-up between Diablo, Oblivion, Baldur's Gate, and Dragon Age (the first, as the second one was a major let-down.)
I'm personally extremely interested in Real-Time Strategy games myself, such as Age of Empires and Starcraft. Some other games I highly reccomend are Minecraft, Portal, Diablo, the Civilization series, and at least one high quality FPS game to see if it fits you on the PC (Such as Quake/CoD/BF). Even though you said you already have the Orange Box, please make sure to definitely play Half-Life.
EDIT: Another great game, if you haven't played it already, is Counter Strike.
Paradox games have an extremely high learning curve, but are some of the best strategy games I've seen, especially for starting up as an Indie game.
The Total War, and Civilization series are more well known and developed.
Space Pirates and Zombies is an extremely good shooter/strategy/indie game.
I'm going to take a completely different point than everyone else: Call of Duty had a great advertising campaign and boosted the popularity of the first CoD game to a reputable level. One this happened, people stuck to what they knew would be good.
I don't feel as though there are any good games out currently that are PS3 exclusives, but games like FF13 Versus, and Starhawk will be some of the games to look out for.
It was on the steam sale for $0.50, and I picked it up one day. It was pretty good for the price, but nothing that I would really advocate and praise to others.
The main thing that TERA has to boast is it's combat: the game allows you to run around, dodging hits, throwing strikes, it's something that no other game has been able to provide- it is basically a third person action game.
Guild Wars II is another great option, and is actually going to have the exact same style of fighting as TERA, but with no monthly fee.
I would definitely get the game for the PC, Origin may be terrible spyware, but there are ways to circumvent using it.
Final Fantasy 7, and it's prequel "Crisis Core" are probably the best games I've ever played.
I've heard extremely good things about Tiny Tower.
The OCZ Agility 60G SSD is on sale for $75.00 after mail-in rebate with free shipping today.
On sale for $550.00 at Newegg today; quite a long battery life, and allows you to run any program you would need to run as a student, as well as a good number of games.
Through my extremely biased opinion, I feel as though Diablo III is definitely going to be one of the bigger games.
The cheapest within your price range would be the Nvidia GT440- the prices for this product scale from $120.00 to $75.00, depending on who manufactures it. Currently, there is a sale for the GT440 Fermi for $49.00, manufactured by a semi-respectable manufacturer: ZOTAC. Link is above.
Although Radeon products have the best hardware to price ratio on paper, I know through personal experience that Nvidia products are much more efficient and have much better return policies.
Tablet computers work rather well at their current state, but in order to get more functionality for your dollar, I'd suggest getting one in a few months. Currently, the Lenovo IdeaPad is a great tablet, but will run you slightly over your price-range; although it has come down to nearly $250.00 in the past.
I personally do not agree with the other two posters; although something like Game Booster can improve your performance, it will not do it to a level that is very noticeable. Other than increasing your current RAM, I don't see any real hardware changes that you can make within your price-range.
I would make sure that your computer is not overly fragmented: this can be done through the Piriform application "Defraggler" found at http://www.piriform.com/defraggler , or through your Windows computer in a default program called "Defragmenter."
