The Binding of Isaac gets quite a bit of note, but not enough to be prominent, so yeah.
i'd say that feeling is nonexistent as I have no desire to play WoW.

minecraft. i say this because when the boring minecraft textures become boring, you can download a new texture pack for an all-new experience. You can do the same with your character, as well.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent. All of it. The whole thing.

The cheapest and easiest way to get back into gaming would be to download Steam. Steam has an entire section devoted to macs, so go crazy.

Minecraft, definitely. 1200 hours +.

this is my favorite n64 game of all time.

My first game ever. I still have it, too.

I personally love the fact that they're setting the new game in america, as opposed to someplace overseas.

The good ending for bioshock. That made me cry a little.

I enjoy playing as assassin/rogue/sniper classes. It feels really good to be agile and sneaky.

I have about 300 hours on fallout 3 and about 500 hours on Fallout: New Vegas and about 1200 hours on Minecraft.
Damn game is addicting. .____.

I was 8 when I played my first game. Pokemon Crystal. It was amazing.
Any age is okay as long as you research the game first and make the decision on behalf of your child whether or not he/she is old enough and MATURE enough to play the game.

project: Nevada for Fallout: New Vegas. this mod adds several new weapons and armors as well as changing the systems around so you can control your level cap, fall damage, damage multipliers, and several other features. Remember the intro video how the NCR ranger turned on thermal vision on this helmet? well, project nevada adds thermal, Electro-magnetic field, and nightvision modes for helmets that logically support that. It also adds sprinting. No, not running like what's already in the game, I mean hitting a button and moving really fast until your Action Points run out.

The Binding of Isaac is the best indie game (minecraft is better, but it's not so indie anymore). It is a roguelike, which threw me off at first because i'm not a huge fan of roguelikes. Then game itself is very disturbing. From the story, to the powerups (get the coathanger powerup and your "tears", which is what you use to fight with and the coat hanger is visually protruding from isaac's head) to the graphics (there is a level entitled "the Womb", and it is literally a womb), this game is very disturbing, but it isalso very fun and the disturbing style works with the roguelike playing theme to create a roguelike with few parallels.
I always loved how this game was set in the johto region but followed a very different storyline, as with all other 3rd releases in the pokemon generation. I have always favored the third releases better than the original two. Yellow, Crystal, Emerald, Platinum, and soon to be released, Pokemon White 2 (because I favor Zekrom over Reshiram).

Luigi for quite a few reasons.
When I was a young lad, I shared the same physique as our endearing green-clad plumber. I slowly grew attached to him as I found out that he fits my playstyle: less power but more speed. He wears green, which is a huge relief after being forced to play as mario since forever, and his game, Luigi's Mansion, was one of the best games in the mario universe.
Call of Duty is a generic fps game that take an old game, tweaks a few things, then re-releases it under a different name. This call of duty, along with just about ever call of duty before it, is just a rehash of the previous game.
I liked the black guy from dead space...until they killed him off. :[

This was the best game ever. Seconded only by Super Smash Brothers Melee. Luigi's mansion provided a unique style of playing, several hours of playtime, and a very satisfying end (depending on how well you did).

I sense a distinct lack of 3rd gen+ on this thread.
I personally can not decide between Pichu, Weavile, Scrafty, and Cofagrigus, All are equally as awesome, but for different reasons.
Pichu is just so cute. Look at my avatar. Squee like the schoolgirl you know you feel like.
Weavile is awesome in that it's ice/dark. Not only is it an ice type with high attack and speed, but it's also a dark type. This gives it a double vulnerability to fighting, but with its speed and wide moveset you don't have to worry about that as often.
Scrafty is a lizard. With pants. Really. look at him. He can have the ability "shed skin", making status conditions simply disappear. His moveset provides moves needed to survive and thrive. Use substitute and then try out a focus punch. Best thing ever.
Cofagrigus... Where do I start? Maybe its ability, Mummy. Any pokemon to come into contact with Cofagrigus gets its ability (mummy) and it overwrites their native ability,l evening out the playing field. It has a high def and makes for a great wall if bred and trained right.

I think i'm the only one who enjoys using a soldier. Nothing beats the thrill of launching an enemy into the air and watching them helplessly flail as they try to avoid your air-crit second rocket.
Moment? does it count if it never ends? for the entire freaking game?
Bethesda Fallout. No, seriously, these are a few of the glitchiest games ever. Sometimes, bodies like to fly when they're dead (and never hit the ground). Sometimes they feel like flying anyways.
I picked mordecai because of his insane single-shot damage. The bloodwing is a godsend when you're low an hp and devoted some skill points to its skill branch. Eventually, it can restore health on strike and hit up to (I think) 6 enemies.
the Wind Waker was the absolute best one. It stayed true to the OOT formula and the graphics were amazing. I still dust mine off and play it every few months or so.

New Vegas. People who even attempt to say fallout 3 obviously haven't played 1 and 2.
Portal 2 and fallout: New Vegas.

Check steam constantly. Also, they have a great section labelled "Games under 10$" and "Games under 5$". So you could get a 10$ game or two 5$ games.
TF2, Realm of a Mad God, Maplestory, Combat Arms, Dragon Nest.

I run windows 7 and I have no issue, but I would suggest going to those forums Weste suggested.

I play as a whatever-gun-is-best character. I always max out in level though, so I constantly have to reset my level to 1 and set my hp down lower in order to have more fun.

Every Call of Duty or Battlefield or any other generic shooter everyone says is so great yet it is just like its predecessors.

Nostalgia, thy name is Nintendo.

Fallout New Vegas Ultimate edition for the pc has 200+ hours of gameplay and countless mods to enhance your experience. I suggest Project Nevada.
No because it's best on a pc and the Vita would not have the power to play such a game.
Valve. Blizzard has WOW, which is still pretty popular according to my friends, but Valve has Steam and Portal 2.
Borderlands 2. 'nuff said.
If I were you, I'd download steam and just sort of camp there for a few weeks. They have deals that change daily as well as midweek deals and weekend deals. You might see one of the suggested games there if you have enough patience.
Steam: providing games for dirt cheap prices.
No, I wouldn't. Personally, I am a bigger fan of L4D than I am of HL. I'd much rather play L4D3 than HL3.
Any pokemon mystery dungeon, actually. The only difference between red and blue is red is on the Gameboy Advance and blue is on the NDS. Time and Darkness are both NDS.
try Dragon Nest and Vindictus. Vindictus is more combat-based, with little to do outside dungeons, but Dragon nest is a bit more town based. Also try Mabinogi. All accessible from Nexon.net.
Any Bethesda game.
Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion, Elder Scrolls V Skyrim.
If you're looking for far far FAR past may, I'd go with minecraft.
Both mass effect games are great. The only qualm I have with them is the achievements which force several playthroughs, but other than that, highly recommended.
I personally like the portal storyline. Portal 2 more than 1, but portal 1 does have some significance to 2. It's also not all in the dialogue. If you explore the world in portal 2, then you can see the sorrowful tales of previous test subjects and the rise and fall of aperture science.
All of them. Why choose favorites when every developer has a chance of coming out with something amazing? I try to sample a bit of everything when and where I can. :)
It depends on your tastes. Personally, I believe Borderlands has the best graphics, but that is merely because I enjoy the cartoony cel-shading-like style. If you mean most realistic, I'd go with crysis or skyrim.
For horror, Amnesia, Penumbra, and silent hill.
For startling horrors, Dead Space (1 and 2), Bioshock (1 and 2), and Metro 2033.
I love playing as a soldier, especially if you can get a medic. I personally use the Black box because I like the health on-hit, but otherwise I like the Direct Hit for practicing air crits.
Skyrim, skyrim, skyrim. Graphics and open world gameplay, from the makers of Fallout 3 and just under 50$.
Maplestory is a great mmo, but the cartoony graphics may not appeal to you.
Oh yeah, it's free too.
Limbo. The boy goes through limbo to save his sister. If that's not love, I don't know what is.
I say it's not worth it. While it has a few noteworthy changes, overall it's just another generic shooter.
It felt a bit like a goofier more linear Fallout: New Vegas to me. I enjoyed it.
I like Khajiits. Cat people who're very stealthy. I like stealth, so that's my opinion.
Cost: 40$.
Benefits: more than 200 hours of gameplay.
it's a great game, but really gory.
Have a tough day? Get fired at work? want to kick a puppy? Play mad world!
Are you serious? mobile gaming will never outdo console and pc because of the mere fact that console and pcs can hold and process data faster. Can you play skyrim on a mobile device? didn't think so. Even if you could, would it have ultra amazing graphics? no, it wouldn't. PCs can process games at an entirely different level than mobile devices. Have you seen skyrim on a premier alienware or asus computer on the highest settings? port that, punk.
Oh gawd. These guys don't know pain. They haven't played this game.
Seriously. It'll make you break your keyboard, set your house on fire, and live with the wolves just to be ride of it.

Beating metroid (the original one) and discovering that badass in the suit was a girl.

I liked it, but it's not as good as the Humble Bundle 4.
This question exists?
It's a yes. A damn yes.
Fallout new vegas hands down. With the dlc and several mods online, it has several hundreds of hours of gameplay.
The Nintendo ds is an amazing gaming system and very popular among children. Any nintendo system would work excellently. The problem with gaming systems like the xbox 360 and the ps3 are the readily available violent games, which are in no way, shape, or form suitable for a child. Nintendo has several titles suited for children such as yours.

If you want to pay 2 more dollars, then minecraft. It's better than terraria.
Under 25, there's tf2, The Binding of Isaac, Limbo, and plenty more. Download steam at www.store.steampowered.com and check the under 10$ section. They have sales frequently. For example, I picked up L4D 1 and 2 for about 20$ last summer.
Try Dawn of War. it's one of my favorite RTS games.
Decent multiplayer too.
BF3 is generic.
Ignore the price, it's free on steam. :)
Also, try Combat arms. Tons of guns.
Minecraft. Not really indie anymore, but it has infinite gameplay as they keep updating it.
There are no cheats for the 360 per se, but for the pc there are console commands.
Also, the wiki has so many things. Cheats, exploits, etc.
What I see here is a distinct lack of notice for the age of the child. Everyone is suggesting consoles with violent games (wii excluded) such as Gears of war and Halo. An excellent gaming console would be a nintendo ds. Kids love pokemon games and it comes with the ability to download more games and apps. The 3ds has some good games too including Ocarina of Time.
I'm sorry, but all the good games are on pcs. You can play Team Fortress 2 and Portal. Besides that, all the good ones (Fallout 3/New Vegas, Bioshock, etc.) are pc only. Bioshock 2 is mac, I think.
There's several games in the series. Available for nintendo DS, iPhone, and Wii.
This is what I use. Very high-end and scans programs for viruses as you execute them, halting any form of hidden attack or Trojan horse.
It's a bit glitchy but still good. It has good rpg elements including a weapon crafting system.
Personally though, I like left 4 dead better.
Fallout 4 is coming, but no info is available. Bethesda won rights to a fallout mmo as well as any future games, but no further info.
Windows key>Documents>Downloads. Check there.
The best way? get a Windows pc.
I like how everyone (except Karl H.) is giving answers the OP specifically stated he didn't want. Battlefield, CoD, and Valve need not apply.
Battlefield and CoD are generic as heck anyways.
You could try Minecraft. It really depends on your laptop's specs. My laptop is crap but I can run quite a few games, whereas my girlfriend has a higher-end alienware desktop and can run anything. What kind of laptop do you have (graphics card, sound card, processor(s), etc.)?
Vinductus. Very combat driven with a fast pace and expansive dungeons.
This. Fully customizable with several comfort features including a 6 foot cord, a removeable palm cushion, anti-ghosting wasd (prevents signal failure from spamming), and 6 different macros. Starting at 80$.
if you like mabinogi, then try Dragon Nest or Vindictus. Both are by the same company and you can use your Mabinogi login to play them. Vindictus is more dungeon and combat based while dragon nest is a tad more humorous.
yes it is. Select your structure and hit copy. When you copy your structure, the in the upper-right hand corner (depending on which version of mcedit) there will be an option to "save" or "delete". click save and name the file. Then open the world you are moving your structure to in mcedit and click "import" (the crane thing with the box in the hotbar). Place it and orient it as you want.
Enjoy.
It actually does make a difference, despite what critics say. My brother has a very old computer, and this program (the free version) is the difference between running minecraft and getting an eternal loading screen.
Macbooks have obvious shortcomings and cannot do nearly the amount of stuff that a pc can. Asus and Acer are both well-respected and well-to-do brands that have very decent machines.
TF2 is free. Best deal ever. If you mean games you normally pay for, at the moment Plants vs Zombies is 80% off. If you don't like that then wait until steam puts up new deals.
Team Fortress 2 is free, Portal 1 is cheap, The Binding Of Isaac is 10$, Limbo is 10$, Plants vs. Zombies is 1.99 on sale right now, terraria's good, Cave Story +, fallout 1 and 2, but the best game is probably tf2, which is free. There are several more I haven't mentioned, but it'd take too long to narrow down the "under 10$" category in steam.
"Left 4 Dead (1 or 2)", "Portal 2" is amazing, but 30$. It goes on sale on Steam often, though. If you want to go for an xbox 360 game, then try "Gears of war (2 or 3)"
Limbo is similar but much simpler. It's also much like "I wanna be the guy" but not as frustrating.
