INTRODUCTION TO BIOVISUALIZATION:
Building skills to compete for projects in life science fields
1 DAY • $199
INTENDED AUDIENCE: 3D Artists with little or no scientific/medical experience.
In this one day course, you will be introduced to the exciting field of biovisualization. The Boston area is rich with opportunities for life science-related projects, since 3D visualizations have become commonplace in both Biotech/Pharma marketing campaigns as well as academic research. We'll begin with a quick primer on biological structure and resources for obtaining the biological data as a starting point for projects. We'll discuss ongoing molecular visualization in this area and focus on how Maya's broad set of tools is being adapted for biovisualization. Finally, we'll review methods for importing and manipulating PBD data, and work with the recently released Molecular Maya toolkit.
|
| By the end of this workshop, you will: |
| |
- have gained some background on the structure of biological molecules and how to obtain relevant data as a starting point for projects
- have an understanding of how 3D animation packages like Maya are being adapted to create scientific visualizations
- have a working knowledge of the Molecular Maya toolkit which facilitates the import and animation of biological datasets

MOLECULAR MOVIES WITH MAYA:
Exploring Hollywood's Tools for Advanced Biovisualization
1 DAY • $199
INTENDED AUDIENCE: Scientists with little or no experience with 3D software.
This one-day workshop will introduce you to the power and flexibility of Autodesk's Maya - a workhorse in the film industry's special effects and animated feature films. 3D visualizations have become an integral part of experimental biology and can be power tools of intuition as the need to integrate information from diverse fields becomes paramount. We'll discuss ongoing molecular visualization research in this area and focus on how Maya's broad set of tools is being adapted for biovisualization. In addition to exploring the software's modeling, animation, dynamics and rendering capabilities, we'll review methods for importing and manipulating PBD data.
No prior knowledge of 3D animation software is required. |
| By the end of this workshop, you will: |
| |
- understand the 3D production pipeline and how 3D packages like Maya may be well-suited for advanced research visualizations
- have gained enough exposure to Maya's UI and toolset in order to continue learning at their own pace with tools presented in class
- be able to evaluate the usefullness of the tools in your own research
